another obstacle with my prairie

ok...kawasaki finally paid big boys toys in ogden to replace my clutch as it had groves worn in it with less then 600 miles on it...so i pick it up...load it up and head off to logan about 2 weeks later...slap it in low as the kawie rep informed me...go approximately 100 feet and let off the gas a bit and i hear this loud clanging noise and the shifter is bouncing around like it wants to pop out of gear. It continues to do it a few times i test it and i am getting pissed. Slap it in high, works like a peach, put it in reverse and works fine, go back into low and the same thing happens...loud clanking and the shifter shaking to all get out. Anyone have a clue to what it could be...dropped it off at Vesco's and they believe when big boys worked on it they might have misadjusted shifter mechanism...i hope it not serious as it has already had the cluted replaced. If anyone experienced anything like this would appreciate some insight...also any of you motivated people that have torn into your machines have any ideas would love to hear them as well...anyway, any help would be appreciated.

I'm not trying to freak you out but the EXACT same thing happened to me. It took alot of phone calls, however, I ended up with a brand new quad.. My mechanic found a gear that was installed backwards, it slid back and forth across a spline shaft and the teeth were on one half that was supposed to engage inside of another gear but because it was in backwards, well I ended up with a new one within two weeks. I'm not sure if my dealer was pulling a scam, but don't let them of easy.

Dokyo, don't listen to Steelhead650, He is just trying to freak you out. Here is your problem, Your shifter linkage must be misadjusted, Lots of P650 owners had this problem, incuding me. It's not that hard to reajust it, I think nyroc has the text file, that will guide you thru the job, on his web site. Probably that your linkage is to short and doe'snt have enough travel to engage correctly in the low gear, or it is not centerred right, wich would make it go to much in reverse, but not enough in low. If you try to center it right and find out that when you engage iti and reversem the reverse light doe'snt work, this will mean that you will also have to readjust the travel of the linkage. Thi is done by making your shift *** longer, ther is an adjusment down there, under th pastique, If you are a bit of a mechanic you will find it, if not, just bring the machin to your dealer, they sould know what to do.

RAPTORYFM660R, did your forum profile get hacked? Your icon looks like a nun with a halo. Just kidding!
Dokyo, it really sounds like the shift linkage needs adjusting. If that is the case, it is easy to adjust. Bigboys might not have done anything. I don't know. I haven't been to big boys in 10 years. Havent been to ogden for a long time too.
Mine did that, and nobody had ever touched it. One day it just started ratcheting. The adjustment was a piece of cake.
FYI, kawasaki assembled the machine with the belt adjusted a little loose (thanks kawi). Add to that the fact that riding in any kind of dust increases the grooving on the pulley. We all have a little grooving. I honestly do not believe you needed new pulleys. I realize you may have a warranty still, but I am telling you this so you wont feel that your 650 will bleed you for repairs after the warranty. 650's don't really need the pulleys replaced as fast as some dealers are replacing them. So, when your warranty runs out, don't think that the 650 is as bad as your dealer makes it out to be. After the warranty, learn to replace and adjust the belt yourself and your maintenance costs won't be very high, generally speaking.

nyroc,
Here at the KNOWSALOT FACILITY we only seek the truth and the halo shines ever so brightly in the esteem of the enteral Quad.
Queuing the dealership, client relationship it does not seem like quads are simply floated down from heaven, when something is just sliding back and fourth.
So it is written, so it shall slide and be ordered fixed
