i need to rebuild the top end of my motor. what is the best setup I should go with now? i plan on getting a .040 over 11.5:1 compression piston. is this a good setup? should i bore it more or less? is that a good compression? and will I notice any power gain with the setup?

You basically have two choices unless you want to spend big bucks on a big bore kit. A 20 over or 40 over wiesco. Go with the 20 unless your cylinder is scored too deep. that gives you room to go to a 40 next time without having to get a new cylinder. the 40,s can give some heating problems also. You will not notice any more power from the slight overbore of a 20 or 40. You may pick up some power if yours has been worn and low on compression and the extra 0.5 point compression can't hurt.
