Hello Everyone,

Can you tell me if the 2002 Kawasaki Prairie 650 V-Twin had the override button? I'm just curious. What are the advantages of having this button? I'm still reading my owners manual. I'm sure I will come across it.

Thanks,

Yes the 02 has the override, the advantage is being able to spin the tires in reverse if you get stuck, or if you need to back up a long distance and don't want to wait till tomarrow to get there.

I believe the reason there is a govenor (which the button overides) is so riders don't accidently grab gobs of power in reverse and get out of control. It is probably a lawsuit preventing device for Kawi.

I like it on the lakes in the winter. You can hold the reverse rev-limiter button and go faster in reverse then low range forward.
This is kinda scary if there are snow drifts but when its clear I can almost make it dance. Applying the brakes to lock the wheels and shifting from low range and back she will spin in circles while travelling at about 20 - 30 mph

PrairieDust - that sounds like pretty fancy hand/foot work. I'd like to see that!

Just about all 4 wheelers with a reverse for the last 5 years or so have been equipped with a reverse rev limiter. This is actually an idiot switch. It prevents idiots from killing themselves by accidentally hammering full throttle while in reverse. The override button overrides the reverse rev limiter allowing you to get full throttle in reverse. It's a shame we all have to suffer in order to protect a few idiots. I have learned to live with it.

Yep the rev limiter keeps you to about 5 mph, but hit the overide and you can throw some nice reverse roosters.

Most belt driven quads (with the exception of Yamaha) have these overrides to help with stucks (get stuck going forward; maybe back out).

You need the wheelspeed in reverse? Hit the button.
