A friend of mine just bought a year 2000 mojave for $800. It smokes a little when you first start it and when you hammer down the field. We were going to install a high comp piston in it. but what should l do to stop it from smoking. I think its the valves or the valve seals. what do you think.

leaking valve seals will plume blue smoke when you first start it. Worn rings will blow blue smoke when you get on it hard. Tell us what color the smoke is.

If the smoke is blue and it does it at start up and hammering on it, this engine was probably excessivly hot at one time.

It's possible that the cylinder is not perfectly round, mine wasn't.

They press the sleeve into the cylinder, this may distort it...might not.But they dont check or hone it afterwords like they should.

Other possibilitys include a missing airfilter or a cracked boot between air filter and the carb allowing dirt into the motor.
