Default Different needle jet settings for front/back cyl. on P650

As we know, the back cylinder runs leaner and therefore takes a larger main jet. Has anyone tried running the needle jets at different notches from front to back? Ex; 4th in the front and 5th in the back. The reason I ask is now that the cold weather is here, my machine doesn't take throttle well on the back cylinder until the engine is fully warmed up. (10-15 min. riding). It's definately lean; with the filter off you can see the rear cylinder mis-fire. A little choke or a shot on the rear cyl. primer and you have instant throttle response.

not a problem here in the flatlands..
142/145 stock kehin jets..I wasn't too crazy about the needles in the DJ kit
so I did not use them, you can richen it up by doing what you suggest though
my bikes(v twin & v four) have the same amount of needle position though..
also as a side note..on my v twin & v four bikes it is not uncommon to have the
pilot screw settings to be diffrent (more rich by about 1/4 turn or so..) on the rear cylinders..

I'm not a carb expert, but I adjust the pilot jets and it solves the problem you talk about. The bonus is that you can make the adjustment without opening up the carb. Isn't the needle jet inside.

To fix what you are talking about i held the throttle at the RPM it was missing then at the same time adjusted the pilot screws until the missing stopped. After setting the pilots that way i have awsome throttle response.

I'll try that, mtecate, but I'm already out 4 turns on the rear cylinder.

I'm also out 4 turns and it runs good finally. It's probably colder where you are. What are the current ambient temps there Nova?

This week, approximately 3-7 Celcius in the daytime.

Can you get at the airscrews without taking plastic off?

Kingmort: No problem to get at the air screws. Look in on the right side of machine and you can see the bottom of both carbs. jefffoxsr: the temp got down to -5 celcius (25 f.) last night, not as cold as you would get in Michigan. jefffoxsr, have you got any mods on your machine?

If you turn them and cant get it right you may need to up your pilot jet size. Something that may also help is a dyno jet kit because then you have adjustable needles. It has been about 25f here and i have my screws set at about 3.5-3.75 out. 4 turns is the maximum you want to turn them out. Any more and it doesnt do anything. Then you wil have to change your pilot jets. Since yours is stock you should be able to get it dialed in.
