Suzukis version of P650??
#1
Well......I have not been on for a while and maybe I have missed this one.I went to my dealer today for a visit.I was giving him grief for carrying everything except Kawasakis.I love my Kodiak but am ready to move up.He advised me to wait because he was told that Suzuki will have a 650 with IRS soon. His belief is that this will be an alliance version for suzuki. It kinda makes sense, they can offer basically the same quad with IRS or swingarm. He told me to be patient as there is a dealer show in feb and they hope to find out then.I really don't think he was pulling my leg.I have purchased several from him and have no reason to think he is making this up.If this is true I am glad I waited...................time will tell.
Anyone else heard this?
2000 Kodiak

Kodiak
I heard the same thing Suzuki is coming out with a big bore although I heard it was going to be the largest of the atv's maybe a 700 or 750 with IRS that would be sweet. I hope it will have lock up on the front axle.

So now we will have Artic Cat and Suzuki joining the big bore wars. I'm sure Yamaha will take another run at it with some sort of twin.
I love it. Keep it up boys, fight tooth and nail for the chance at being the king of the big bores.
The only sure winner will be us, the consumers.

Yes to big bore I definately like to see some more rpm's attached to very same big bore like 12,000 instead of a meager 6000. They can make a street bike 650cc turn out 15,000rpm createing 105hp that will go in excess of 160 mph. That is on a street with where kids cross people go to work, the lawyers have to big a say what we do with our lives. Why is one controlled so heavy and not another. I would like to line these lawyers all up in row and ?????? You can fill in the empty area's. The manufacturers already have the technology lets show them we can handle what they are unpreparred to give us.

all toys,
doubt if you will see a v twin pull 12K rpm, (unless it is a ducati,) more likely something along the line of a inline triple or 4, like a ninja or yamaha r6 type powerplant, if I'm holding out for a high reving powerplant, I have a wish list in this order..
1) V max based (v 4 1200cc, 11K rpm--saw a dyno of a chain drive at 200 Hp, rear wheels..)
2) Magna based (v 4 750 cc - have no idea what kind of rpms it pulls)
3) R1 based (1000 cc inline 4- that would go 11-12 K rpm) as it is a race replica (or FJR)
4) R6 based (600 cc inline) Race replica
5) hyabusa (1300 cc inline) 200 Hp or so..
needless to say, I'm partial to the v 4's..(and that smallblock NASCAR sound they make)
The Yamaha V star 1100 is a v twin, but only 8K rpm..
V star 650 is about the same
Road star is 1600 cc, v twin, but 5500 rpm..
I confess that I'm more up on the yamaha street bikes than the kawasaki..it is what I ride..but, I have the prarie as well..

Surveyor Yonge fellow how are you doing.
Unfortunately I would love to have a 12,000 rpm'er that is not to be unless it is taken from a proven street bike. It's funny you mention a magna series bike I used to have a V 65 very fast and it didn't start to red line untill 12,500 and top out at 16,000. I never had the guts to see how fast it would go in 6'th gear. Traded her in for a Harley and started quarter mile drags with it just to see how fast I could get the 80 cube to go. I managed a respectable 10 second quarter but never did break it. Nostalgia it's great.

alltoys,
doing just fine my friend..
nothing wrong with nostalgia..as long as it still performs..
the magna came in 2 flavors, both v 4, a v45, or 750, still being made, and a v65 or 1100 sabre, discontinued, the suzuki maduro, was also a v 4, but had a short run, not sure of displacement..,
the v max is still the original v 4 hot rod, same design as 19 years ago, and still made, still producing thrills, as far as straight line performance, it is right up there with the sport bikes, but it is more traditional style riding bike.. at 6K rpm, power curve goes ballistic..a little something called v boost..
I'm pretty conversant with the yamaha v 4, as I ride one..in royal star trim..13oo cc, castrated version of a v max, (smaller intakes, carbs, overdrive transmission 2 gears, tall geared rear end, restrictive heads, low rpm limit on the cdi box) but at 72 hp, and 65oo rpm, not bad..I can go up to 8K rpm, but that would mean replacing valve springs, & cams (intakes out of a venture).. now that would be a rush..I can't complain about the bike, as it is a cruiser, but the transmission is kind of strange..4th is about .9, and 5th is about .78, so both are overdrive & useless below 6o mph. but 3rd is fantastic..20-95 mph.. with the tweaking on the valve springs & cams in 2nd they will go about 85 or so..this is a bike that really benefits from a "igniterectomy", as the cdi unit is so pitifully low, and the bike produces horsepower in the upper rpm range..
there were some 1st generation venture royale that were 1200 cc, tour bikes, v 4 as well. I have seen some supercharged (1) but probally there are about a handful of folks in the us that can make one bark..mission yamaha has the fastest one, britts motorsports has done some amazing things, and barons custom all had their time at bat with this misunderstood bike.
as far as longevity, I have a friend of mine that has 115K on his, on a 96 model..
John furbur at rocky mountain sportmax in denver, regulary plays with the v max, (blowers, etc..)
so needless to say, I've got a soft spot for the v-4, as I have one in my garage.
the exhaust rumble sounds like a smallblock chevy, not a v twin.very distinctive, & I know that they will take abuse, becuase they came from the v max hot rod..
not old style pushrod aircooled motors..nothing wrong with that, but I wanted something diffrent.
when in the bike mags, on a test of sport cruisers, the magna holds its own very well against larger displacement machines..just takes a diffrent riding style to appreciate.
did'nt mean to ramble on like that..but have a happy holiday..& wish the munchkins one too.
