How about the timing chain guides. Probably one of them not in place correctly and it's rubbing. First I would remove the auto tentioner and make sure it's not sticking and applying good preasure to the chain.
Then take the cam access cover off as well as the hand staert recoil. Turn it over by hand and see if you can hier the timing chain rubbing.

Antix, If you figure it out let me know. When I put mine back together, I got the same thing. I tore it apart again to find out what was causing the whine with no success. I've been running with the whine for a year now with no problems. One thing I did notice on re-assembly, The chain seemed real tight, I assumed it was from new gaskets ?

I don't know if it's ok. Obviously, something changed, and you'd think that if you put it back together the way it came apart...it wouldn't whine. I'm say'n that I have run it for a year with the wine with no problems. The whine also decreases over time. Now its hardly noticible.
