i think any 98 or earlier kx250 sprocket should fit for the front and i beleive sunstar aslo still makes sprockets for them.
im just trying to figure out why you need more bottom end. lol i know mine has hells of bottom end

Sounds like you and I have a similar project going on. I'm working on bringing an '88 Tecate-4 back to life. It was neglected for many years and needs a lot of work. But I'm learning a lot along the way and it's fun. I think that Beasty is right -- the KX250 sprockets will fit. I believe that most people change the front sprocket just because it's a lot easier. Have you ridden the bike with the existing sprockets yet? It takes a little bit of testing to figure out what configuration is the best for you. You might want to try to drop one tooth in the front and see where that gets you. Unless you needed to replace the rear sprocket due to wear you'd only be replacing the front and it'd cost around $10.

No I havent ridden my Tecate yet as it is in about a million pieces right now. But you are thinking that I should maybe drop one tooth in the front? Where is the best place to get this front sprocket?

I cant wait till this project is finished. Can you still get alot of the stock parts through the dealer? I have all the major stuff but will probably need maybe some bushings or some bearings. Im sure there is a bolt or two missing throughout the quad too but havent got that far yet to see what I need. Cant wait to ride this thing for the first time.

Check with www.sprocketspecialists.com, they should have them and they are reasonable. The # for the rear is 250 and the front is 324....look around the beforementioned site for the same #, you may find another brand and cc engine requires the same sprocket...then you could call your local shops and see if they are in stock for the application that cross-refrences too your t-4 (I asume your local Kawi shop does'nt have them).

I've also noticed that there's a chain/2 sprocket set on Ebay right now. You should be able to get the sprockets just about anywhere. The guy that I bought mine from had dropped the front sprocket one tooth and said that it made a world of difference but subtracted from his top end. To me quick is better then fast.

Yep, mine's in a million pieces right now too. The more that I get into it the more I realize that I bit off entirely more then I wanted. I'm learning a lot but cash is a bit short. I have to replace every bearing in the thing that alone is hundreds of dollars. I'm working with All ***** Bearings right now trying to identify and catalog the Tecate-4 bearings. After we check their stock against the Tecate part numbers then I'll have more information on pricing and availability. If they don't have them then I'll head over to Rec Unlimited and check the availability and pricing of their brass alternatives. As far as factory parts, my local Kawi dealer is able to order anything that I've thrown at them but the price is pretty high.

On top of the bearings, the rear shock needs rebuilding and the cylinder needs a bore. I'm blasting/painting the frame right now so it should look like new when I'm done. I am pretty excited to finish it because I've read some good things about them. Plus I want to see how it runs against my buddies Warrior.

Hey Hollywood we are gonna have to stay in touch cause my quad is in the same condition that yours is in. It is in a million pieces and the engine is in bad shape but I think either LRD or John Boschma is going to take care of the engine for me.

So All ***** Bearings carries bearings that will fit the Tecate 4? Im gonna check that out do they have a website?

Keep in touch so we can pass restoring tips to each other for our Tecate 4's.
