TRX450:

I thought about the sure-trac's but wanted something that was 6 ply due to places like Miller's Creek. I want to make sure the ATR's on the rear slide in the corners well and the fronts don't roll-over/lay down. I really like my Holeshot's on my Raptor and would like a similiar performing tire in the 25 inch range for my Prairie. So far the ATR's sound like the tire to have, maybe Lightman can tell us what he thinks in a couple of days.

Well, I decided to be the guinea pig and try the ATR's. One word = AWESOME! I have a 99 Kawasaki Prairie 300 4X2, come stock with Dunlops, 25x8x12 front and 25x12x10 rear. Next set was Titan 489 front and Chen Shin C-828 rear. Next set was Dirt Devils front and rear. The Dirt Devils are 1 year old with about 50% tread remaining on front and 25% on the rear.

I chose the ITP Delta chrome and black wheels, 12x7" This tire size is supposed to equate to a 25x10x12. I was concerned with losing 1 1/2" wheel width and 2" of section width. Not a problem. These mount up the same width and height as the 25x12x10 Dirt Devils.

I did a 75 mile loop yesterday, from the flagpoles to the coke ovens, east almost to highway 177, across the river, back to the diversion dam and then back to the flagpoles. With 4 psi, I crossed the slick rock as hard and fast as I could, trying to ding a wheel so I could quit worrying about them. Couldn't do it. No dings, no scratches and unbelievable traction. Got to the river, found a tree to back up to and buried the back end, trailer hitch setting in the sand. With DD's break out the shovel. These radials climb right out! On hard packed roads, instead of standing up and kicking the back end 90 degrees to get around a turn, sit down, point it and HANG ON.

Losing 2" of sidewall height, ride quality does suffer slightly. Noticeable but not enough to be objectionable. The tradeoff is well worth it. If you want to put the sport in your big over weight utility, these tires will certainly do it.
