Default Prairie 300 Oil help

Hey guys.. My buddy just picked up a 99 Priarie 300 4X4 He is kind of mechanicly inclined so I am changing the oil for him. Found the drain plug the oil check and fill but where the heck is the oil filter.. I know... buy a service manual.. He is going to.. But I told him he should chnage the oil asap before he rides it just to be safe.. And help would be greatly appreciated.. Also what are you guys running for oil? How much oil does it take? Do you need to check the oil while its running to get a reading? thanks for all the help...

Default Prairie 300 Oil help

I had a 2001 Prairie 300 & the filter was right behind the same cover the oil dipstic was in, there was 4 or 5 screws you had to take off to get the cover off.. So basically it is the black cover right above the foot rest on the oil dipstic side. I used 5w 40 in my quads, I think that is what the manual recomends. Dont remember the spec on how much oil the 300 takes, I would fill the oil & keep checking after 2qts until it is full on the dipstick, then AFTER the dipstick indicates the oil is full, run the eninge a few minutes, shut it off, let it sit for 5 mins & then re-check the oil level & fill in necessary.. Hope this helps
