Default 350lb man questions the Prairie 650 suspension

Ok i been looking for a quad now the last few weeks, i tried all the makes and models from a 400cc up. I like the prairie 650 but, when i sit on it the rear suspenson went down 6" before i even drove it. I know that there is an ajustable shock in the rear center which compreses the shock spring, should i do this? Is it just me or is there any other big guys out there that know what im talking about with this machine, i really can use some input on this issue. the dealer said he will ajust the spring for me tomarrow and i can test drive it again. wont this be a harder ride then? or shoud i find another quad with a stiffer rear suspension that can handle my 350lb 6'4 body.. thank you...

Well, I weigh about 270lbs. and am 6'4". A little smaller than you but it works fine stock for me so far. I do want to stiffen it up a little as when I jump it it seems like it squats down too much on impact. I have to put larger springs in my snowmobile rear suspension as well and it made a huge difference. These ATV/Snowmobiles don't come from the factory for us guys....

I have an 03' 650, and i adjusted my rear spring. it made a big difference. i have mine on the hardest setting, and i really did not notice much difference in ride quality. i only weigh 160lbs. it is the thing to do to keep the rear from squating!

When the rear shock on a P650 gets worn out, you can have it rebuilt and revalved for your weight.

I am 6'4" and weigh 320. I have no problems with the Prairie. I have had it over 60 already and hit some nice jumps and still is running strong and have not seen anything wearing on it. I have already had to give rides with other 300 pounders because of accidents. It still handled great.

Scott:
???? where can I get the rear shock rebuilt? I bought a new one last year and it cost me 1500 so I kept the bad one, but no luck on rebuilding.

BTW I'm only 100 pounds and my shock went.

Kawi650 - rebuild your old shock and then sell it on E-bay. Probably get a good price for it!

I haven't had any problems with mine and I'm heavyer then you, and I have the spring ajustment cranked to the top, and about 60 psi in the dampner. if you like ELKA is coming out with shocks for the 700 and it has the same rear swing arm, the ELKA should cross over if you want somthing Beefy.
