2002 KX250 problem Nickel plated cylinder
#1
I purchased a brand new 2002 KX250 and just got it out of the break in period 1 1/2 month old. The bike started to make a pinging noise which was coming from the cylinder. I called Kawasaki and asked them if there is any type of recall on this. They replied no and said that there is absolutely no warranty on the bike because 2 stroke bikes are considered to be race bikes. I asked them if it were a manufacture defect, will they cover it. They said no again. Seeing that I was not getting anywhere with this, I decided to take it apart myself. I noticed that a piece of the nickle plating that they put in the cylinder chipped off and stuck to the bottom of the piston. This cause the piston to scratch the cylinder wall up and pinching the piston ring.
My question is does anybody know who I would be able to contact that may help make this problem right. I have pictures if need be.

You are probably best off to bit the bullet and have it reniked. FTZ does it for $195. You might check the price on a new cylinder. Some of them are only around $2-300.
Look at the raptors. THey are shelling 2001 trannies right and left and yamaha says there is not a problem.
