Default anybody running 145/148 jet combo? opinions?

I have the 142/145 combo right now. I cut off the entire top front edge of the aixbox lid, It works good and the bike is running great, I love it.

However, after I rode through the woods today at slow speeds in low range for about 10 min or so, I could feel the airbox area in front of the seat getting pretty warm under me, the temp here is cool right now about 55 degrees F.

Also when I first start the bike, if I rev it up it will back fire a little bit. After it warms up though it runs great.

I plan on checking the spark plugs, but I was just wanting some opinions? I ride mostly at 1100 - 2000 feet .

Could that airbox heat be bad for the bike? I am sure it will be worse in summer.

Thanks,

I run 145/148 and it works great. Needles are shimmed too. I don't believe the heat you feel is unusual, but it does point out the benefits of running the Square C snorkle. The snorkle sucks cool air rather than the hot air you're getting through the airbox lid. Cool air is denser and makes more power. I know, I've got the same holes in the airbox set-up until I spend the money on the snorkle.

Novakaw, make your own snorkle. I made one out of 2" ABS and it works fine. Cost me $15 at Cambodian Tire for all the parts. Have a look at my pics if you want to see it. It was relatively easy to make. I bought 2 ABS elbows and a 2' length of pipe and started cutting them to get the right fit. I removed my stock snorkle and laid the pieces I cut right on top to get the shape I needed. Glued everything together and there you have it. Another way to get cooler air into your airbox area is to remove that rubber piece in front of the airbox. That way, cooler air can flow up there.

I am going to make a home made one as well out of some pvc or raditor hose. But it still seems like I would get a lot cool less air in the box than I am getting with the air box lid mod I have now. I guess less cool air, is better than a lot of warm air.

Mastrblastr Did your homemade snorkle really make any difference?I always into doin my own hot roddin instead of byin parts ,but to my thinkin the joints in the PVC may not flow all that smooth, but if it works....

With my homemade snorkle and 142-145 jet setup, I noticed a power increase. It's not mind boggling power gain, but it is a gain. I've got my muffler modded too, which also gives you a power gain. I can't see why my homemade snorkle doesn't work just as well as the aftermarket ones out there. If you make your fits with the ABS as tight as you can and don't over glue it, it'll work fine. Better than spending $100 on an aftermarket one and lets face it, were not talking about a 1500 horsepower dragster here that DEMANDS unrestricted flow. It works just fine.

letcherKY,

I'm running the 148/145 combo and it runs well. I just added a PBG pipe, so we'll see if I need to jet up. I did the 148/145 in anticipation of the pipe, I just need the chance to get out and see how it runs. I also spaced out my air needs .08.

I ride anywhere from sea level to about 1000', with 700-900' being my normal riding alt.

Peace,
Sgt_Rock
