My wife runs a 2000 kvf 300 with about 2000km on it,great bike ,the only problem we have had with it is the bolts coming loose on the exhaust manifold going into the head. it will start to rattle on you, good luck with your new toy!

I have the same machine only a 400. I use low a lot on the trail, and I absolutely hate when we come off a trail onto a gravel road or a bigger wider fire road. I have to allmost stop, throw it in high, then catch back up, (no trouble there yet). If it were just me with this problem I would leave it in high and just change the belt more often, but its fun, because the Polaris 400 sportsman has the exact same problem, so we get to do the low to high drag race.
too long, guess to answer your question, for anything consistently over like 25 MPH, unless towing or climbing big hills, I go to high. Happy riding!

i have a 01 300 4x4. i've been real pleased with it so far. theonly real problem i've had is the front bearings start rocking in the spindles wich causes it to make a clicking sound when you turn. it's something that is easy to repair. they use red locktite on the bearings and it holds up real good. mine has gone 700 miles with no problems. the muffler bolts came loose too so i used locktite and thats been fine since. as far as low or high i only use high on long flat rides. i just installed a warn winch so i might need some stronger springs in front.

my grandpa used to have one before he traded it for a 400. no problems except for when you started goin just enough to make it move it would click and jut forward a bit at every revolution of the tires never did it when goin faster than 5mph. never figured that problem out

Thanks everyone,,,,Still breaking it in,,,was a little worried because I was using on ice,,I am only using half or less throttle but I am keeping it in low,,sounds fine ,,runs fine,,but I guess I should use high on ice... It is just so smooth sounding compared to my 300 bayou 1995 I had previously that low range seemed ok,,,but i did think it was a little {hot},, Same engine and all but lots of extra pounds and automatic plus 4x4 ,,I guess it will run hotter no matter what..

Hey Kawrob,

I have same front weight problem, winch and loaded box on front rack makes it pretty heavy. Does anyone make a stiffer front spring for the 300/400 Prarie's? I was wondering if the adjustable springs from the 650 might fit our bikes. would help a lot.

400PrairieXLT,,,If the 650 springs are not inter-changeable ,,how about trying the spring stiffener inserts used when a plow is installed,,,just an idea
