Default Updated 650 clutches and V-force high perf belt

Sascach,

It IS good to see Kawi is making updates.It is also NO help if they don't inform us.Will they offer the upgrade to 02 owners?I seriously doubt it.If they did, I doubt my dealer would bother to inform me.I would just like to see my belt and clutches to last as long as they do on comparable machines.I bought with the intention of keeping it for about 4 years and 10000KMS.At this rate, mt clutches will be excessively worn by 5000 and I'll be on my 3rd $120 belt.

And I've got a $900 extended warranty that doesn't cover this!!!!?????

All these numbers are starting to add up to another brand, soon.

Xovan, I got a good chuckle outta that. NY is closer that it looks.

I can't see Kawi giving everyone with 02 machines new clutches and belts although it's a nice thought. It would cost them a fortune to update everyones machines. However depending on what kind of dealer you have you might be able to convince them that you nead a verry good deal on the updated clutches. I'm thinking we might offer our customers some kind of one time low price just to help them out. With the new style clutches ther isn't a machine out there that will compare to the 650 for reliability or performance and the cost of changing brands is going to be allot more than that of the new clutches and belt. If you do switch brands you'll only get to look at the back of the Kawi instead of the veiw over the handlebars. lol Also if you paid 900 bucks for the extended warr you paid way to much.

I called my dealer, and he looked up the part # on the 02 and 03 belts,
and he swears they are the same. So maybe the dealers don't know about the
new updated Prairie belt?????? or he's to lazy to really check.
Could this be a V-force belt only???

Those are Canuck Bucks, SASCACH, plus 15% taxes.Don't get me wrong, i love my 650.I just don't think that clutches should wear out this fast.Bottom line is that I get a polite "tough luck" from my dealer and Kawasaki.I paid hard earned money for this machine and I'm gonna hafta keep payin'.

Oxygen;
When I bought my '03 650, my dealer swears my '02 New replacement belt is the same as the '03 650, even if it the stock #'s are not the same.
I also noticed that the '03 650 vs '02 650 oil filters stock #'s are also not the same number. I ask the dealer why this was so & he said Kawasaki may be changing the stock numbers from the model years for inventory reasons.

Sascach:
Ramp weight Part # 39152-1088 that is in the 700 Vforce are the same weights I am using in my Kawasaki high-altitude clutch kit that is installed in my Prairie 650.

92LT;
According to the '03 650 Service Repair Manual, the A2 Late, B2 models have the updated Converter system parts.
It is not clear if the updates are for all of the B2's or the later B2 models(camo).
I can find nowhere in the Manual on what is a Late A2 model, (VIN number's) should indicate when the update took effect, (once you can find the start of the serial numbers for the updated converter parts.)

We got a couple of 700s yesterday, the first thing I did was poped the belt cover off one to have a look. They're deffinently a different belt look somewhat beefier, didn't take the clutches off though so couldn't tell you anything other than that, I just had to take one out for a ride. I find it interesting about the weights. That should mean they are lighter which would make sence.

Updated 650 clutch Late A2.
After giving the '03 650 Service Repair Manual a good-look-over, I found on page 5-25, information on what is a Late A2 650 & what is a Early A2 650.
The SRM states that on the outer Driven pulley, their are some numbers/letter stamped in "Black" which reads - 00/A or 00/B or 00/C
If your '03 650A2 has these numbers/letter on the outer Driven pulley then you have the updated clutch.
My B2 had the numbers/letter of - 00/B.
