what are all-trac tires ,and why do they handle better then atr tires

 

All-Tracs are a model/type made by MAXXIS, who also make several other models of tires. I am also wondering what makes them better than ATR's (other than being much cheaper).

 

A radial should always handle better than a bias ply. If the All-Tracs are handling better it probably has something to do with the tread pattern.

 

I ran all tracks last summer and was not at all impressed, I was always bending my rims and got flats just as bad as with the stockers. I can't say for sure about the ATRs but I think I'd give them a try before the all tracks. I didn't like the handling on the all tracks either they seemed to dart badly on the trails and it the pressure was a little high they bounced like a basket ball.

 

You guys with conflicting oppinions make these decisions more difficult.

I wish we could have a shootout. Someone write to Maxxis and ITP and get them to sponsor it (at least to send the tires).

Shoot pictures, write oppinions, and I will document the tire shootout on my website.

Or, why can't Atvconnection do something like that?

 

nyroc--- "great minds think alike". I suggested to the crew I rode with at H/M this week end, that we needed a tire AND wheel sponsor. I belive I did this JUST after the Pullaris wildman broke the center out of the Scrambler's rear wheel! We used a Rincon as a wrecker, to get it out of the woods! We had some tire troubles. Mostly knockin' 'em of the bead on the rocks. I had no problems with my Spiders/Maxxis Shur-trax combo, though. I DID ,however, get shown that I need to do the Progressive springs, snork, and ATR's I got spanked by two other P-650's. These guys cooked thru the woods! I have pix on my site!
BTW-- This ride was taped by Prairie-Dog Productions, in cooperation with WVa Trailguides. Tapes will be available by 3/31/03, or so. 5hrs. of taping, should turn out a nice 2 hr tape after edit!

The ATR tire has a nice rim protector. My 589's has a rim protector and I no longer ding my stock rims every time. This is a major consideration for me. I have recently purchased C-series rims and would hate to trash them.
