I agree, good post Shotgun. That really cleared some things up. Wouldn't we need a dyno run to find peak torque or horsepower and at what rpm? And if the tires are limiting us from reaching that rpm how would we know peak? Or is that where the adjustable weights come in?

Yes, you really need a dyno to find out what the peak HP is for sure, but all we have to go on is what Kawasaki says it is from the factory, 42 @ 6500, then add as a guess the HP added by your mods. Most maker of Mods will give you numbers of how much HP their product adds.
It would be trial and error, but it is only a fifteen minute job to change the weights, so it wouldn't take long to get them dialed in. A few runs and you would know and it wouldn't cost you $150 for the dyno run. The weights at epi would be fine, if you knew for sure what weights you need, but adjustable weights will let you change to the exact weight you need and if you add a mod or something changes ie tires, then you can change them again.
Also if you dyno an auto it isn't the same as a standard, they are dynoed in a certain gear, usually forth. An auto can't dyno in a certain gear because it is always trying to shift up, so the numbers aren't compareable to a standard, that is why Kawasaki numbers are dynoed at the crank.
Don't get me wrong, weights aren't going to make a world of difference, unless you are way off, but if you want your bike to make the most power it can, you need them.

The race is the last weekend in October, what kinda cost are you looking at? We are working on getting some cash sponcers right now so I may be able to buy some from you. I'd like to have everything on it so when the guys are practicing they will be running what they will be racing. Thanks, Jim D
