Either the cable is rusted and will not release, the bracket that holds the cable by the motor has bent and will not release the cable or something in the trans has messed up. check the cable for movement first.

I am not exactly sure how the Lakota is set up where the cable goes into the tranny, but on my Mojave there was "muck" under the cover where the reverse cable went in. I removed the cover, sprayed with lubricant and worked the rod back and forth with a pry bar until it freed up. I then put some grease all around the rod to keep moisture out. I would check your cable first though.
