Well, LT80 was right, the key was to shut the fuel off for at least 30 seconds before turning off the engine. So... I'm not buying a new carb. Thank you! Do y'all recommend certain sprockets for riding in the sand dunes? Other than that, both myself and y daughter are happy campers. You folks are awesome!

For a stock motor, you can go up a tooth on the front sprocket.
You will have to cut the rear shoes to 180 grams and remove 2 rollers.
FYI:
If you still have the 520 gearing (10 tooth front), I think a blaster sprocket (11 tooth) works. Double check on that before buying.
Other than stock, I get my gearing from Hetrick Racing.

Anyone know if the metal carb floats can still be had someplace?

i ordered a replacement float for my 87 from suzuki and it had the metal adjustable tang on it, the original was just plastic and not adjustable.
