so you tried jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver.....hmmm...do you have a replacement solenoid? if the battery is good >12volts, then the solenoid would be suspect and would need to be tested or just changed out. they should be cheap enough. have you pulled the starter out and tested it?

Default Help tao tao wont start

Ok so the starter arrived today slapped it in and now it spins (it didnt before-had the previous one tested and it was bad) But now it does not turn the motor (no Spark) just engages like it suppose to.
What gives? and just died suddenly last week-see previous post?
Could it be The CDI or some other electrical component?
The inline fuse is good as well as all connections, brake light works. I'm at a lost for over a week now and dont want to waste any more $$$.

let me get this straight, the new starter is installed correctly and it does not turn the motor over/crank the engine? so the starter is not turning the flywheel turning the crank and not doing anything but cycling by itself? so the starter sounds like "neneneneneneneneneneneneh" but the engine does not turn over? if so, it sounds like the starter bendix/sparger is not installed correctly to engage the flywheel. you said "no spark" after you said it doesn't crank. obviously! if the engine doesn't crank/turn over, it will not generate anything to produce spark. BUT, if the starter IS turning/cranking the engine, and you have no spark, we can deal with that.
please verify your information as you are saying 2 different things here.

Jaster,
I took it as "it don't have spark".
I've found alot express it as not rolling over , which you and I usually think the motor is not spinning.
Watch me be wrong..LOL

i don't know that you've ever been wrong. you finally got it beat into my head about asking if it's a 2 stroke or not. but i still forget to ask that even though it's bitten me more than a dozen times. you'd think i'd learn. bwahahahaha! i was just trying to get some clarification on jargon/verbiage so i was on the same page. terminology changes from state to state and country to country. good thing we don't "facetime" or skype, they probably wouldn't understand my southern drawl! yeah! there ya go!

Okay so it sounds to me like the starter just spins (same sounds as it spun before I put it in!
So I'm thinking maybe it's not fully engaged, upon further inspection there is a very small gap between the starter and the mounting of the engine-but it is touching the starter housing to the engine (we are talking about 1/4 inch maybe, no more) actually it's not really a gap but a shiny part of the starter that shows as it fits into the hole for the starter.
And all three bolts are tight. The starter just cycles but does not seem to turn anything
So I ran out of time (had to work) but that's what I see so far!
I will reinstall it to be sure it's done right when I get home, other than that any ideas?
Please
In the mean time I went ahead an ordered a new CDI, new spark plug wire, and plug
Awaiting those parts...$$$$
