@LT80 I finally got the front clutch off. 3 of the rollers on one side are jammed in grease standing straight up. The back one, the shoes look good but the drum needs sanded down some to make it smooth.

The key in the front looks like it's rounded off on the end. And the plate the key grabs looks a little tore up. But the slot where the key sits is clean and not jacked up. Should I replace the key too?

I have pictures of the front clutch. I can get them of the key. It's damn hot and I quit after I got this far.

 

You are going to need everything. I'm sure a roller has gouged the roller tract(s). ie: variator/rollers/roller plate and insulators. A guy in Caledonia NY sells the whole kit on ebay.
For a buck, you can get a new key, or turn yours around.
FYI: you only need a dab of grease to help hold the roller in place during installation.
Rear: you can try to sand the bell down some. Use a medium grit sandpaper and break the glaze on the pads.. lil circular motions.

 

@LT80 I looked online and cant find the one you're referring to.. don't really wanna spend 180$ on the set from Oklahoma... Buuuut. If I have to...

The key, it looked pretty chewed up on both sides. I'll get another just for the heck of it.

I read post after post of you saying to use minimal grease, so, use all the grease I can right?! I'll use minimal.

As for the rest, I was gonna do that, sand it down smooth and such to put it back together. Should I clear coat the outside just to slow the rust down?

 

I'd say no to the clear coat. Pump all the grease you can in the front clutch. When the grease flies out and all over, the rust will stop. . LMFAO

 

Sounds like a plan! Packin all the grease! Lol.

I was looking and only found this clutch kit but I don't need the front starting gear.

That would be awesome and I greatly appreciate it! All the other parts except the picture below, and key, are still in good shape. I just need that interesting clutch with the rollers and the sleeve possibly. It looked a little discolored but still seemed round.

 

Maybe clean that thang up. Maybe you don't need the variator. Once cleaned, show me. If the roller tracts are not gouged, it'll be ok.
Turn the roller plate over and show me.
Red rollers are original and only in 87-88's that I know of.

I'll work on cleaning it up tomorrow. The roller plate I might need a new one as the spot where the key goes is chewed up.

It's a 97 model. Looked it up by the VIN. Wonder if someone's done work on this before?

 

I do have parts here, clean them up and we'll see if you need any.
