GasGas 300 not running right
#1
Well, my neighbour just bought himself a GasGas 300 2stroke.
As you know these quads are initially jetted to the rich side, for brake-in purpose.
Well now, after it's broken in, my neighbour changed the jetting to the recommended idle 38, mainjet 175 and needle at NFEE.
Problem is that it isn't running right at mid-throttle position. Power comes up suddenly, and it seems like the quad is holding back.
We are situated at 40meters above sea-level.
Anybody got any ideas?

Mine was spitting and sputtering at mid range. Like it was watered out. The problem with mine was the float level was to high and it was forcing too much fuel into the intake making it miss. This maybe your neighbors problem. Mine has been rejetted to a 42 pilot. Not real sure on the main jet or needle. They both are out of the LTR jet kit. Other thing he might want to try is moving the clip up on the needle one notch.
Other things to check is the ground wire on the clutch side under the front corner of the gas tank. It maybe loose.
Or the reed/rad valve may have a small crack.
Let us know what he does to fix it.

mine was having a midrange stutter yesterday too, but great bottom & top end power. i have the LTR kit for sea level- 48 pilot, LTR needle on position #4, 180 main, air screw out 2 turns. i'm at sea-level to 2500 ft usually. i didn't have time to tinker with jetting yesterday, but next time out i'm going to change the needle clip back to #3, try a 185 main & maybe another pilot.

I just put the LTR kit in my 300 this weekend. Nice improvment over all really smooths out the midrange and keeps it rapping out real strong. I also got the expansion chamber for the power valve also seems to help. Im running mine at 50 pilot 178 main with the needle that was included not sure it looks custom not k&n I also added a couple of prefiltered air vents in the sides of the air box. This has made a huge difference over all... Before I had to run a 165 main with the needle up one slot to get a clean burn. But its much happier now I would say $100 bucks well spent!!!!

hey trx440, yea I got mine from mike at hard rock, theres no dealers here in utah. I thought i got a pretty good deal on it, when your just throwing cash at it its pretty easy to work with a shop. Shipping only took a few days by truck and he set it all up so I would say i would buy from them again. I have also had to get some parts through them and its worked out pretty fast. Didnt have a lot a of tecnicle support up front but i guess that can happen with a new product and all. I had the machine for almost a month before I was able to get a manuel for it. But any way overall happpy with my purchase!!!

Good to hear, I have been by his place a few times. He's a good guy. He's sold alot of quads.
I have 2 deposits down on the mystery Honda. If I don't like it I am gonna get a GG450. That Fi will come in handy when going to Coral Pink, the Cinders and just riding up on the Rim. My 440 didn't like going up to the high country, sputter-sputter all day long.
Hey, I saw in another thread that your friend has a Service Honda. Quad or Bike? If it's a quad, how is it?

I havnt heard of a service honda quad my buddys is a cycle 03' 500 in the 250 frame this thing eats drag banshees allday long, he was running up a hill behind me I went to turn around and he pegged me in 4th gear blew out the sidewall of one of my paddles and wedged the front wheel in my a-arm. Thanks to the nerf bars he didnt hit my leg probubly would have broke me if they wernt there. i was turned sideways and it pushed me back to straigt up the hill and it was pretty steep. bent it up kinda good tie rod and the ball joint for the upper a-arm, mike was able to get me parts in about a week normal shipping or you can get it almost over night for double the shipping..
the ultimate machine would be putting his service 500 motor in the gas gas it would be about unbeat able.
