What size is it? 80cc? I probably have some specs for it. I found a repair manual at my local library, and I copied it. I sold mine, it was a great little quad, except ZERO suspension. One thing I had a problem with was cold starting. I'd crank until it would almost kill the battery. Cleaned the carb, no help. Finally, the dealer adjusted the valves, charged me .4 hours in labor ($30), and it ran perfect ever since. As I recall, you're fuel mixture screw is covered by a little rubber plug. It's 1 1/2-2 turns out. If you need exact spec, email me and I'll check manual.

BTW, I had no problem getting mechanical parts from the local dealer.

I was wondering if anybody knows what the valves are supposed to be adjusted to on the yamaha 80 moto 4? This would be very helpful. I was also wondering about starting and why I always have to bump start it to get it going? Thank you

There could be alot of things making it hard to start, but I would start by adjusting the valves. Our Badger has the same motor, and I have to loosen the valves about once a year. It is really hard to get a feeler gauge and your hands and a wrench to the valves with it in the quad, so I have been loosening them just enough to wiggle them. From what I've seen and been told, there is really no major difference between these little quads except the suspension. I've been told that you can even put the old Champ head and jug, wich is around 100cc, on the badger 80 motor to gain more power. A buddy of mine had to buy a new jug and piston for his Champ and was around 125 bucks.

Mine wouldn't start, or took forever to turn over (probably after I'd warmed it up enough from cranking it so much). Adjusted carb, cleaned carb, etc.. -didn't fix it. Took it to dealer for valve adjustment-BINGO- it ran perfect ever since. Dealer charged me .4 labor hours= $30. It was worth it for them to do it.

These specs are directly from manual. Found manual at local library and photocopied it.

Intake is .0002-.0004 in., or in metric, .05-.10 mm

Exhaust is .0003-.0005 in., or metric, .08-.13 mm

These are the COLD engine specs. Engine has to be at TDC on compression stroke.

ALSO, the valve adjuster locknut tourque spec is 5.1 ft. lbs.

Here's some other tune-up specs, Compression-Standard-171
Minimum -142
Maximum-185
Spark plug-ngk/nd -C-7HSA/U22FSU, GAP-.024-.028(standard), .6-.7 (metric)

Carb-Fuel level-.14in/3.5mm, Float Height .83 in/21mm

PILOT SCREW- 2 turns out, +/- half a turn

Idle speed -1,800 rpm

Let me know how it turns out.

Well I'll probably get bashed, but I have run Valveoline 10w-30 in all my quads, motorcycles, cars and trucks and have never, I repeat, NEVER had any problems. Most dealers say to only run their brand of oil because it's better and bla bla bla (at over twice the price it should be alot better!). But I try to run a good oil and change it more often than most people. If you don't know how much to put in it, put a quart in and check it with the dipstick, then add as needed. (I think ours holds aprox. 1 1/2 quarts)
I had lights on our badger and lt80, but my kids really didn't like them, so off they came. A friend of mine put 2 of the little driving lights on his kids baby raptors, they seem to work well. He mounted them on the handle bars so they could see when they were turning. The Champs of your year had headlights mounted on the handlebars. Alot of the parts can be bought through dealers such as Honda of Troy and other places like that, you might give some of them a looksee to find the body parts your looking for.
I think your front plastic is the same as our badger, if it would help, I could measure the front pc and we could compare. Just let me know.
