lt80 electrical help!!!!!
#1
We were going to go riding yesterday but our lt80 would not crank over. This has happened before, and it seems to be either a loose connection or a short in the wiring near the battery. ( I think) My question is, what is the fuse for right by the battery? ( I figure its for the starter) What does the little seienoid for, that is right there? Sometimes it will crank over and start, but then if I shut it off, it will not put juice to the starter again. Then I can get mad and kick it and it might crank over again, but then shut it off and it won't crank it over again.!!!!!! AAAAAGGGGGG!!!!!!! I love this quad when it runs right. I hate it on days like yesterday!!! I ended up letting my 10 year old ride our 300ex. (instead of the lt) Problem with that was he done a great job, only killed it twice and never had any problems handling it. Now it looks like I won't get to ride it anymore because he dosn't want to go back to the LT. I'm back to riding my SP500.

I'm not big on electric,but I'll try.
Eliminate the posibility of the start button.I've seen the problem there a couple times now.

Last night I checked the switch, and it seems fine. I can't seem to get anything beyond the fuse/ selenoid (sp?) that is right buy the batterey. I thinK the wires from the switches go to the fuse first, then go to the selenoid to engage the starter. Do you know if this is right? I'm starting to think it has to be the selenoid, but I hate to buy one only to find out it still won't work. Any other ideas?
THANKS!!!

Just a thought but there is a circuit type breaker on the right rear. It has a little read dot in the middle of it that is the part that you have to reset by pushing it back in. Is that tripped. Happened to me once and I had jumped through every hoop prior to finding it.
Hope that might help.

you should hear the solenoid click when you push the starter button, with key on.also, pull the solenoid out of the socket and try using a jumper wire across the two terminals of the socket (the terminals where the starter wire is interrupted-I think they are pink and white wires), with key on. you should get engine cranking immediately. if it does crank, which it should since you're by-passing the solenoid, then you know for sure the solenoid is shot. If not, it's a different problem. Also, what about the safety switch? is the wire pinched ? Have you tried running power directly from battery to starter? make sure you have good ground, and use jumper wire to the starter terminal. should get it cranking. that way you can confirm starter is working.

The pull start has crossed my mind more than once!! That might be a must have for the future.
Last night I got to thinking about what I had done and what had not worked and decided that it had to be one of the switches. Either the key, the handle bar on / off, or the safty switch. I started with the safty switch. It checked out fine but there was no juice to it. I got to checking more and the wires going to it were caught in the rear suspension piviot. I stood it up on the rear wheels and was able to get it free. Then where it was caught, the wire had a bear spot. I spliced the wires back together and wha-la it worked. I traced the wires back to a plug under the front and spliced them together permently and the problem is fixed.
Thanks for all the ideas and help !!!!!!!!!
