Kasea Skyhawk 50- Needs more Power!
#1
I haven't seen alot on the Skyhawk lately, but we need more power from our 50.
I have put on a K&N filter, mated an FMF silencer to the stock pipe and re-jetted. This year it is painfully obvious that my daughter is running out of power.
Should I bother with a real pipe and some clutch mods, or go for the 70cc kit?
I want to do any mods in stages so that she stays comfortable with it.
Anyone who has done the pipe/clutch...how much of a gain was it?

The skyhawk 50 was the subject a three-part performance upgrade series on sportquad.com/kidskorner. Dyno plots too. In a nutshell- a good pipe will double your power, and a 70cc kit will double it again. yee ha!!! Do the pipe first, you'll stifle the 70 kit without it.

This is what we did on our E-Ton 50. The pipe and clutch doubled the power and the 70 kit made it flat haul!!! It will easly run with a piped 90 now.

I have a 50 cc skyhawk . I had a hetrick racing pipe, jet the carb and had a clutch kit put in it . What a difference! This helped the performance of this bike considerable. I would recomend it. My son loves it .He likes having the extra power it has.

mod81- Please check your messages.
How would it work to use the 70 kit with the stock carb (rejetted) and my modified exhaust (see pic)?
She doesn't really need all the power right now, so my plan would be to install the 70 kit and add the hi-po exhaust later on. I know the motor will be a little choked with the modded stock pipe, but it should still be a noticeable improvement right?
Modded exhaust
Basically I cut the stock muffler off. I took a full size silencer, cut it down and welded it to the stock pipe. I know it is not like an expansion chambered pipe, but it was an improvement over stock.

the sportquad.com upgrade series was based on a stock carb. it's a convenient way to 'choke' back the full potential of the mods until the rider can get used to the extra power. there's plans to do a review on big carb (24mm) along with more dyno data.
as far your situation, i'd go ahead and put the 70 kit on. it'll be a quiet way of getting some more performance. the pipe you have, i'm guessing, does little for performance- the key to two-cycle pipe design is in the expansion chamber.

That is what I was thinking. Do the 70 kit now and add a real exhaust later when she gets used to that.
The mod I did to the stock pipe was more for looks and coolness than performance. I always get nervous when I can't hear my girl riding...with the mini-FMF I can hear it rumbling through the woods. It sounds like a real quad and she likes it. It sure did save some weight...the stock silencer weighs a ton!
Thanks for the help guys.
