advice for kfx50(lt50)
Hi
I just bought a kfx50 for my son who's almost 5 and fits the quad perfect. He's rode for around 5 hrs now and he's at full trottle. I love the size of the 50 and the handling of
it but he now needs a bit more power. The washer is out of the exhaust. Any advice on some cheap mods to get maybe a few more mph's out of it. Thanks in advance.

I'm not too sure how to increase the performance on your specific brand. I was hoping an experienced KFX50 parent / guru would help you out by now....
As a suggestion, you may want to contact Greg Peak at dirtrides, Billy Holt WRH Racing, Rich at Hetrick Racing &/or Dave at BNC Racing. These folks know how to increase the performance of many different minis. I'm sure there are other performance experts on this forum as well.
Hope this helps...

Alright here is what You need to do. 1 remove the restrictor in the intake on the carb. remove the intake from the carb, you will see a restrictor there, heat the intake up with a propane torch, stick a screwdriver in the restrictor it will pop out.2 open up the air box. I just cut the lid open about half way thru the lid. 3 jetting. I went up 10 on the main jet,and removed the little jet under the secondary jet.4get a FMF pipe. 5 remove the oil injector system and premix 32:1. That is about all you can do for this little quad. My son had one it was way to slow so I bought him a new one.

Bluetick--- after reading alot about these i will be doing pretty much exactly what you said.
Does removing the oil inj. help in the performance? I see you went up to a lt80 for your boy, mine has a 90 waiting for him and i think he can handle the speed of the 90 but it is way too big in size for him. My godson has 1 and he's a few months older(5) and he's definatly too small for it. Thanks for the help i appreciate it.

Yes the removal does help, It runs alot better. Michael really uses the 80 for Practice and running around in the woods. They wouldn't let a 6 yr old race an 80 here. Even tho he can really throw the quad around like he ownes it. I figured if he can throw a 80 around in the woods then he can rule a 50 in the XC Races.

This is an easy perfomance increase, but you will need a new head gasket. If you take the head off, get some 180 and 220 sand paper. Make sure you have a perfectly flat surface, and you can take about .020 off the thickness of the head. Trust me, there is PPLLLenty of clearance over the piston. This will give it a little more snap off bottom. It just bumps up the compression a bit. Or, if you know a machinest, he can turn it off in no time. I actually cut and rechambered mine to bump the compression up quite a bit. I did this on our Lt80 also. It helps.
