Default Scrambler 90 tranny problem?? Or rev limiter?? Help

I just bought my son a '01 scrambler 90. It seems to run great but I got on it the other day and when i went up a hill it felt like tranny was kicking out of gear then grabbing again . This was at full throttle. It does not seem to have this problem on level ground but only on inclines. Any ideas would be very helpful.

Thanks

The belt is slipping in the transmission. Us big guys just weigh to much if you are trying to go up a hill.

Sounds like a problem in the drivetrain somewhere if it only does it under the extra load of going up hill.Is it making any noises?I'm thinking maybe your chain could be skipping on the sprockets(loose or worn out chain or worn sprockets) or perhaps the belt is slipping.Do the clutches seem to shift out ok when just running on flat ground.

The belt shouldn't slip.I'd look at the chain and sprockets and check the transmission shaft for slop, maybe worn bearings.

Most of the time the belt will slip way before the chain can skip a tooth. What usually happens to create the metallic noise, is that as the belt slips it decreases the tension on the chain and then the belt will grab and increase the tension and spring it. It is alot like actuating a manual clutch very rapidly in and out and it is more pronounced because you are at full throttle, heavier than your kid and going up a hill.

When I noticed this with my sons bikes, I asked him if he felt it and he said no. Then after a couple of races he said it felt like the chain was skipping on the startingline. So I pulled off the side cover and cleaned the belt dust out and changed the belt. Problem went away for about four more races. So now I just maintain it after every race. Since yours is '01 it is probably just in need of a servicing.

If you need anyother help I live across the river in Woodland. PM me I can I can give you my #s. Hope this helps.
