Default suzuki problem

I have a '84 lt185 quad for my nephew and the when we took it out last month, it was giving me a problem. It fired up alright and ran ok, until after a while it would just shut off. It had plenty of gas, but it seems like it turns off after it heats up. And it would keep turning on and shutting back off until a few hours later once it was cool. I recently bought it so I don't know too much about it. What do you guys think it is? Do you think I need to rebuild the carb?

If you mean it runs just fine and then click, off it goes - relace the plug. NGK are known to have internals that will kill the spark after they get to hot from resistance.

If it feels like it runs out of gas, check for ventilation.

would the little coil bolted on the frame possibly cause this? I know mine had lots of broken wires in the coil, over time.

I agree, check the tank vent, it may be plugged and causing a vacumn condition inside the tank, and that stops the flow of gas. Will it restart right away, or does it need to sit until its cool? Next time it shuts off, check for spark. Just carry a spare plug and when it dies, pull the wire and hook up the spare plug. If you have spark its probably a carb related problem.

if it's fuel flow, could be petcock too, or a plugged fuel filter... if one's been installed. Use clear fuel line so you can see if you're getting air bubbles, or solid fuel flow from tank to carb.

It starts up again, I think. But then after it rides for a little bit, it turns off again. I'll try putting in a new spark plug. Now about the tank vent, I don't know where that is. Do you know what size of spark plug I need?
Thanks guys for your help.

tank vent is the tube on top of your gas cap. take off cap and make sure it's not too rusted out and cruddy on the underside. blow through tube to make sure it's clear and air is getting through. I'm not sure which plug you need, ask your local Suzuki dealer.
