Default Newbie question?

I have an LT80 that I bought used. I have to replace the battery, plug, plug wire, air filter, and a few other things. When I called the shop of course they want to know what year it is. I got the VIN off the frame. How do I tell what year it is? Is there an online lookup anywhere?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Also, does anyone have any information on converting the twist throttle to a thumb lever throttle. My son is having problems figuring out the twist style.

Default Newbie question?

does a 1993 sound about right. I thought i could look it up under a dmv program i have but it only works for california registrations. but i think the "P" in the vin represents 1993. i hope this helps

I called the local dealer and they said the same thing. They were "pretty sure" the "P" indicated a 1993. I'll go with that and see if the parts work out.

Thanks.

The stock thumb throttle assembly is only like 40 bucks.
FYI: most all LT80 stuff will work through 1988 up. The 2001 and newer models have different coils/wiring.
You should be fine w/1993 stuff.
You might try Rocky Mountin or the like for the battery. Suz will hit you 70 bucks I bet.
You also can get a spark plug wire from autozone or similiar and put on --> NGK plug cap- part #TB05EMA (stock#8636)
Spark plug-BR8HIX or BR8HX (replaces the stock plug/ BP7HS)

Thanks. I check on the battery, and you are right. One place is $80, the other $60. I got a plug wire from a Honda shop for $2.79 (not bad). And, I found a throttle kit for $53.95 from Suzuki dealer. Is Rocky Mountin a company? Do you know the web address. It sounds like it might be worth it to look up some stuff. If it is cheaper and shipping isn't too high, it might be worth it.

Thanks.

Default Newbie question?

"P" is definitely '93. the tenth character in a VIN gives you the year. letter "o" doesn't count, because it's too confusing with numeral "0". so "K" is '89, "L"=90, etc... In something like 2003, they changed the 10th character to numbers, and they'll be doing that for several years. I'm not Cliff Claven, just went thru the same thing for my '89 yamaha breeze (which was sold to me as a 1995 Breeze).

BTW, I also have a '93 LT80, and it's a "P" aswell.

I went to a battery specialty shop. they were way cheaper than Suzuki, around $35. These batteries can be shipped too, but wasn't worth it for me after exchange rate, shipping, duty, etc..
