I have to agree that 2 strokes are MUCH better in the dunes.. I live in Calif. and spend lots of time at Glamis (biggest and best dunes ANYWHERE) 4 strokes work....2 strokes work better.
In the dunes, HP, light weight and the right amount of wheel spin to displace sand is key. Torque is always important, but mid way up a sand hill... HP, momentum and light weight get you to the top. On hard dirt....That is a different story, torque, low gearing and traction are key.
Also a big factor in sand is flotation. The right paddle tires at the right air pressure make a huge difference.
Just my 2c.

I said nothing about a trx90 i just meant 4 strockes in general i have seen the raptor 80 passing stuck full size machines on hills. but since you mention it my daughters trx90 goes up hills when full size machines are stuck on them my buddys kids trx has bald tires and crawls up them also when some of the 2 strock machines are sitting there pinned and the tires aren't even spinning not all but some. the only 4 strockes that get stuck are the kazumas.this is what i see when i ride your results may be different

Two strokes per cc put out much more power than a comparable size 4 stroke.Since we're talking mini's here (80-90ccs) with the same amount of ccs the two strokes will put out more power. In some situations the semi automatic transmission of the 4 strokers can help make up the disadvantage but probably not in the dunes.

Killerex, Stock for stock you may be right. Dollar for dollar, I'd disagree. The 2-strokes are cheaper to mod for big power. If you've never seen what one can do, you'd be amazed.
So you'd take your 400ex over your banshee in sand?

I live in the desert with nothing but dunes, and my little one has a 04 Predator 90. We have had no problems with her getting around in the dunes, and it is 100% stock. She is also very light ~55#'s. Weight will be a factor to look at as well. Next summer we plan on getting some extended arms, as she too like to corner a bit to fast.
Thanks Chris
