My daughter has a 2001 lt80 that really gives of a bad smell from the pipe when running, i thought it was the type of 2 stroke oil i was running so i changed oils (yes i did drain and flush before changing oils) and it still stinks. The same oil is used in another bike we have and it smells sweet. does anyone else share this problem.

Hey Kev, welcome to this forum.

For the heck of it, perform a Plug reading. Improper mixture of gas / oil sometimes makes an engine smell different. Different then others. For details on plug colors and possibles causes, surf:

If a tail pipe / muffler is full of carbon and other crud, it would make an engine smell different as well. Usually after the engine is hot and transferred some of its heat into its exhaust system.

Hope this helps...

Well, my two stroke days are long ago... but I think I have a couple items to check too. Spike is correct, you might need to adjust the mixture a bit... Also, I wonder about the oil you are using... what is it made from? If both oils are castor bean derived, you will get a wierd smell for sure... Klotz was the brand of choice when I was racing... Not sure it is still around.. but it definately had a different smell than a petroleum based product... Nothing like smelling Klotz in the morning.. or methanol for that matter. Those two smells bring back a host of memories... all racing related...
