Default Shifting gears on Mini ?

I'm looking at the Grizzly 80 (raptor 80)..but it is a 3 speed auto clutch....How fast will my son catch on. It will be his first ATV. but I dont want to have to buy another one for a while...
Anyone have children that started out with a having to change gears ....I dont want to ruin his ATV in Exp. of the the start...
Thanks
Jp

Both my boys started riding on a minitrail 50. 3 speed auto clutch. The oldest would shift as needed and frequently. The yougest would shift to second and leave it there indefinitely. Even when he came to a complete stop, the auto clutch would save him. He would come to a hill and not be able to make it and still be in 2nd. Once he moved up to the xr75, manual clutch. He had to shift more and did. Now he is 17, started at 4. He now rides a CR250 and you would never know he used to be to lazy to shift.
