It would also help if you told us what the majority of your riding will be. The trx 90 is all right but it don't have electric start and not all kids can pull start it.

Default 90cc Reliability?

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news to anyone especially the Polaris freaks but stay away from the Predator 90. I've got one for my 5 year old and besides being in the shop 6 times for 2 stators, 2 CDIs, 1 wiring harness, and 2 kills switches, and the fact that everytime its gets wet, muddy, cold, or bounced too hard it won't start, its great for cleaning up and parking in the garage to increase the property value of the house. Not a reliable machine and definitely one of the biggest Polaris failures ever. This model seems to have all the manufacturing flaws of a cheap imitation thrown together and labelled with a big price tag. I will never get another one. Go with the people that are recommending Honda or Suzuki. We had an LT 50 and you couldn't do a thing to stall it out. Unfortunately junior got too big for it and it had to go. I'd even consider the new Bombardier.

Cooper we have told many people not to buy the Polaris (or clones) for heavy mud or water crossings. The cvt, fan and stator are all vulnerable.

But understand not everybody rides in those conditions.

I found a mint "used" 05 Preddy 90. Kid got it for christmas and never rode it. Still has plastic shipping cover on the seat. $1700.
We live in the desert, only get 8-9" rain a year. Kid wont ride in winter, too cold. I ride all winter as its cold but no precip. Should I worry about the electrical problems? She sits on the bike and it fits her perfectly.

I took raptorlegs advise to heart. I have to stay near a dealer shop for major repairs. There is a small independent shop that is said to be excellent that can repair the chinese ATV's but no dealers.

Thanks to all for the input. There is some really good advise that I am going to use and I would have never thought of the points mentioned.

Nah, it's the guys trying to mount a winch to the front that seem to have all the problems.

Congrats on your purchase!

Its funny how one person can have all kinds of problems with a bike , and another not have a thing go wrong with it. I got a 05 Predator for my 7 year old, and she has been through some average water crossings and lots of mud with not one single problem. The key to any reliability is maintenance. Spray the connections with diaelectric grease and keep the chain adjusted and lubed. Any kid can get on any quad and ride this **** out of it and you WILL have problems.

I bought my 12 year old son a Honda TRX90 and it's perfect for him. I have not had a problem with it and changing the oil is a easy. It doesn't have the cool looks like the Raptor, but what it lacks in looks it more than makes up with reliability.
