Default 3rd gear noise/screetchl on 110cc?

hi
has anybody experienced a loud screetching noise on their 110cc quads? (4 stroke 110cc 3spd + reverse shaft drive)
we have 3 shineray 110cc quads and two of them develop a loud screetching noise at high speed in 3rd
i have checked the obvious oil levels in the engine and shaft drive assembly's
as these are UK road/street registered quads it is usually around 30-35 mph

any help would be apreciated

thanks in advance

Karl

Default 3rd gear noise/screetchl on 110cc?

Welcome to the forum K44RLL, From what I have read here it is normal and will go away with time. It sounds like a clearance problem to me but everyone that has posted about it says it goes away.

I experienced the same shrill sound in my son's 110cc since new. After talking to my dealer, he said it was normal. After 10 hours it now does it in second gear. Not being happy with the shrill whine, I contacted the corporation, they told me that they have had this problem on a small percentage of ATV's and would send me an upgraded mainshaft(tolerence issues) and all parts to rectify the problem. I haven't received my parts yet so I haven't torn it down yet.

K44RLL:
Not to change the subject, but what's the turning radius on that 110? I went and test drove a 110 Raptor style quad (4 stroke 110cc 3spd + reverse shaft drive), same as yours, and was very disappointed in the turning radius. It literally was half of my son's SP 90. What's your experience? I had been seriously looking at those for an upgrade in a year, but as of now, I may not.

you can cut the steering stops down or just bend the tabs back. It's pretty easy w/ the machine standing up.

That's good to know. The dealer who was selling the 110, didn't know a thing about the steering and said it was a safety thing.

Did you get the screetching noise figured out? ...and it's not a tranny issue, eh?

How much did you pay for your 110? This guy is asking 1799.00. I think it's a bit much, but not sure what others are getting theirs for. Good luck.

I haven't received the parts to fix the tranny sound yet, but I have heard of people saying that the sound gets somewhat better but doesn't cure itself. I made sure that I was getting new parts, especially before the warranty is up. I paid $1500.00 out the door, which included license, title, registration, tax, and warranty. I have seen in my local paper a 110 ATV just like my sons for $1050.00 under the name of Wildcat, probably the exact same.
