Baja 90cc

Hello everyone...good news. With the help of 2manytoys we now have both Baja's up and running. Boy the things you find out once you have someone who knows what they are looking for starts poking around.
On the 50cc - there is a choke...up from where the gas shut-off valve is - under the plastic part - very hard to see and find, but it's there. After a quick idle adjustment and brake adjustment, that one was running in no time.
On the 90cc - WOW did Pep Boys do a number putting this thing together! As you all know my battery dilemma with this one - they put a bad one in and didn't properly prep it in the first place - didn't fill up one of the cells with the acid stuff. Ok, so a new battery went in. The first thing 2manytoys found was that they didn't even wire the key ignition into anything - so the key didn't do anything. He redirected the wires so everything worked..they had the lights miswired as well..didn't have them grounded at all. Then the next thing he found was that they didn't even put an air filter in the filter to the carberator (sp?) and they jammed it in when installing it so when you took the screw out, the front part didn't come off - he had to force it out and it broke right away because it didn't fit in the first place. He gave me the K&N filter part # to put a universal one on there instead of that one, so that is ordered now. He adjusted the idle and brakes on this one as well.
Both atvs will get an oil change before Christmas day and we should be good to go. I have to thank everyone in this forum for their help and encouragement as well..but for 2manytoys for going above and beyond...I kept joking with him that he saved Christmas..and it's true! It's a good thing, too because I didn't want to have to find Santa and beat him up.
Anyway...I'll post again after Christmas and let everyone know how much the boys LOVED their Baja's.....Merry Christmas everyone!

Sounds like you found a good mechanic there.......congrats !!! ......well after charging by battery for a day (mine is a 1 amp trickle guess I should have got the 2 amp)....we got the bike started....not sure but I think my battery is on its way out.....off we went with sled in tow again.....had a good day.....bike ran great as usual.....may need a new charger and battery ?!?......went back to Pepboys (I need to stay away from this place) and purchase our 5th bike from them its an x-mas present....but my boy fell in love with the new 70cc Pit (dirt) bike.....they are pretty sweet looking......Karen the manager thinks I may need to see a doctor about our bike addiction's.......lol.....yeh I need a new hobby before we go broke....ha !

Good to hear it was just a simple choke issue with the 50.
With the 90 that sure is a poor prep by pepboys!! I'd be going back and letting them know! I got my baja in the box and put it together myself. You have to fill the battery with acid as the acid pack is sperate. Otherwise it all went together alright. I did check it over pretty good and it seemed ok.
Being mechanically inclined or having a friend who is makes things much less frusterating with these things!!!

I was actually impressed with the Baja 90. The suspension was very plush and it seemed very well built. Better than most of these chinese atv's. The 50 was built nice but I thought it was a little slow compaired to other 50cc atv's.

what do you guys mean unscrewed the throttle? and by pushed in the safety pin, do you mean the red pin that pulls out of the back?
i am having a heck of a time starting the machine.
i get spark. it kinda' wants to go, and sputters about three seconds then dies. countless turning over of motor later, it kinda' catches again for three seconds and dies.
bolts are tight. fuel line not kinked. gas in tank. i haven't checked for a blockage yet, but the thing is only about 110 km's on it.
i am getting very frustrated.
any suggestions?

These are very finiky to start at first. Make sure you have a good charge on the battery. When you turn it over you have to slowly play with the choke. These come with a gel pack in the carb float bowl from the factory for shipping purposes. Thats why they are hard to start but once they dissolve it will start easily. It all comes down to the choke. Just getting the right position to start it. Once it is running you will have to feather the gas for a bit till warmed up. Then there are 2 screwes on the right side of the carb. The one with the spring is your idle and the other on the left of that screw is the air/fuel screw. You need to let it run for about 30-40min. Dont ride yet. Let it cool and then try to start it again .More adjustments may be needed. You also need to change the oil. Once you get the oil changed and carb adjusted you can ride. Remember slowly move the choke up or down while cranking and it will catch.
