Baja 90cc

In my experience after 8 months of starting this bike and as mention above........in cold weather the battery has to be fully charge and in excellent shape (mine is not..) I then unscrew my throttle cable screw... adjust almost all the way out....set choke up....after it runs a few minutes.....move the choke half way down.....let it idle there a few minutes.....then as it warms up start to screw the throttle cable back in and move choke all the way down (off).. total time here about 20 minutes warm up (summer only 10 minutes but same procedure)...my idle screw (screw driver slot) is set at this (-) position for cold weather riding....in the summer I cut it back (counter-clockwise) a 1/4 turn......this is my experience after 8 months of starting this bike.......and it may take ya a few cranks before it catches......yeah they are cold blooded bikes but once they start they purr like a kitten !!! QUESTION.....Any body know where I might be able to get a rear rack to mount on this bike ???.......I have seen some on the 90's before......would be great for hauling some stuff around.........................................P.S . ..Baja's book is fairly worthless.......the choke is not mention once.....very generic book.......yeah I do my own prep and P.D.I. on my bikes as well really don't want pepboys touching it .....as a matter of fact I tell them I want one in the crate or box.....no displays for me.....they do an ok job here on the prep but some of their help can be sloppy at times.

Like I mentioned a week ago or so my little baja starts great in the cold well below freezing. The kids have no problem with getting it going with out me helping it seems. When I started it I put the choke on let it fire up, put the choke on half for around 30 seconds then let them take it for a drive. After driving for a few minutes it warms up in a hurry. So far my battery has not needed any charging when not in use. But I agree it's not a very strong battery to begin with. It starts way better then my old honda TRX 250. It used to start good to in its day, just its getting a bit tired these days!

Just stop by my local Pepboys on the way home from work today........and saw that they had 6 new BLUE Baja 90's (ours are normally green) with the digital speedometer......they look sweet.....ask where they got those and Karen said from Canadian Tire.......WOW....small world huh ?.........she said they had sold all out of the green ones.....the blue ones look a little better with additional reflectors and such........I like the blue ones with the speedo.....not bad.....they are on sale for only $ 799 here this week... hey I wonder if both stores have the same parent company or something.......uummm.....dunno ?!?!

Hi gang,
Have not posted in a while but have been reading your posts. Glad to see Bruinrider got her units squared away with the help of 2mantoys, very nice of him to help out.
Would love to know the K&N air filter number if anybody could provide it.
Been reading about the problems some are having starting them and tend to agree. They are tuff to get going sometimes but I have found, as 2mantoys has said, you kinda have to monkey about with the carb settings to find out where they run best for your altitude, climate. etc. Ours seem pretty good now after I adjusted them, still tuff on really cold days.
I had a problem with one of our ATVs (we purchased two of them). The engine developed a knock after about 8 to 10 miles (12 to 15 kms.) of riding and would not run consistently so I complained to Baja. After a bunch of messing about, around three weeks or so, I got a work order number. Got it into the local warranty repair center a little while later. They thought it was a valve clearance so they asked for specs from Baja. They screwed around for about a week or so then gave them the information after I called Baja and kicked up a polite stink. The service center adjusted the valve and the problem was still there. They notified Baja and they were told that they might have to replace the engine. Long story short, after about 6 weeks, and the warranty running out, I got fed up and started being a little bit more persistent. I convinced Baja that the best thing to do was to give me a new ATV and they did. We brought the "defective" one to the Canadian Tire we bought them from and they gave me a new one. The main reason I brought this up was for the following words of advice:
1) Baja seems to be growing very quickly and are having a hard time keeping up with customer service, therefore, don't wait for them, be persistent yet polite (it worked for me). I never lost my cool and yelled at anybody no matter how much I wanted to, this worked out for me in the long run as this was one of the reasons they opted to replace my unit, as I was told by my contact at Baja I was working with. [During the time this was all happening Baja moved to a new location which screwed things up a bit as well.]
2) Get names of the individuals you speak with at Baja and try to deal with the same one(s) in all your communications. I managed to get the name of the Director of Service and found one young lady that works in Customer Service that was very helpful and willing to work with me and go to bat for me.
3) Don't just rely on Baja, get the store involved as well if necessary. I spoke with the store manager and he went to bat for me by calling Baja on my behalf. I think I was just lucky in this instance to have a very helpful and customer oriented manager at the Canadian Tire we bought the units from.
Anyway, enough of my rambling. Hope this little info helps out if you need it, hopefully you won't!
Lastly, for Bozzy, the blue ATVs are the ones sold here in Canada as you were told. Both of ours have the digital speedos, reflectors, etc. Maybe some of the additional safety things (i.e. reflectors) are because of Canadian laws or regulations. I will have to drop into a PepBoys nextv time I am in the States and check out your green ones to see what else might be different.
All the best of the season to al of you. Be safe! Merry Christmas and Happy 2006!

K&N filter number is RU-0160 and the outerwears to go on the outside of the filter is 22-8009PK. This will fit any of the 70,90,110 and 150cc atv's with a 1.5" carb flange. This helps a great deal and will give it more power. The stock airbox and filters are junk!.

Hey 2manytoys,
No I have not changed the oil on the second unit yet. The one that went bad only had about 15 kms. on it, one day of riding. I did not get a chance to change the oil on the bad one. We have about 20 kms. (12 miles) on the second unit. Do you feel that the oil should be changed? The manual is not too clear on this. I was thinking about putting synthetic oil in them. What is your feeling on this? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

I hate to say this but thats why the first one went bad. You HAVE to change the oil when you get them. You can not run them with the stock oil in it. It is like water and will ruin the motor. Synthetic oil is great to use in anything. I use it.
