DieselTech

Understood about the Raptor 80 and 50 carbs. I checked that fact online at riva motor sports before I bought my carb. update parts. I replaced the nozzle as well as the main jet in my carb. with the Raptor 80 parts. I may try drilling out the main jet with a #80 to see if that makes a difference.

Also, just to note: if you whack the throttle wide open from full closed on any carb-equipped bike (that is not a CV carb or accelerator-pump-equipped carb, especially if it's a single-cylinder engine), you will experience hesitation - shouldn't stall (unless you hold it wide open), but it will hesitate. This is due to the airflow dynamics and fuel flow. There is NO WAY to completely eliminate this. Don't chase your tail........ ;-)

hey CJ5350,
i dont have any pic. of that but its simple.i used a small makita grinder to grind it down.

first did you change or cut the slide in the carb??
that needs to be done first.
next take the cover off the throttle and you will see the throttle arm.
push the throttle like you are giving it gas, you will see the arm hit the screw(throttle stop adj., adj. the screw all the way out first). now you can see where the arm hits the screw,it has a bump?? (dont know what to call it) i scribed a line to make the lever straight in that area. take it out, grind it off, clean regrease and re assemble. check to see if the throttle opens all the way. adj the stop screw so the throttle stops on it and not the slide in the carb.
you should be good to go!
hope this helps, let me know if you need more info.

Darin

Okay, after the weekend of my poor daugters little raptor 50 bouncy off the rev limiter just trying to follow my idling yfz... while I'm still wating on the new cdi and due to the fact the friction plates needs replacing anyway...just bought a 80cc engine and box out of an early 90's yfm...

So I going down the same road as you guys but just wondering how different the wiring harness is...also since the little 50 engine is still running well.... is there anyway just to fit up the 3 speed box for the moment just to give it a little more top end...

Cheers

R

thats great! thats the best way to go.
the 80 motor should bolt right in. need to cut a slot in the running boards for the shifter.
the wire loom is different, you can get the loom from yamaha for about $70.00.
if you use the 50 loom it should still work with a little splicing

good luck and let us know how it goes

Guys, this forum has made for some very tasty reading. However, for those of us (maybe it is just me) that are mechanically challenged, would a powersport dealer do the types of mod's that you keep recommending? We bought the '05 Raptor 50 and right away it was not fast enough. Thanks

yes, they should be able to help you out.
none of these mods (except swaping motors out) are very hard to do.
let me know if you need help
