For ALL trail riding minis (which include Dune riders), I always recommend:

- Skid Plate. Can be thin steel, thick plastic or checker plate aluminum. Material strenght depends on your average to worst riding conditions. I hear hebco has skid plates for many different brands of minis.

- Driving Mirror. Even though the parent is expected to escort the young riders, the driving mirror is an excellent add-on to determine who might be sneeking up behind them. A low quality material (re: plastic case and suppoort rode) is inexpensive and if rolled, can "break off". Note: Most bike shops sell univeral adator for its handle bar size. Our's cost $6.95 + price of the single mirror.

- DRLs. If I remember correctly, Unison comes with DRLs lights. If they are optional, ensure you order them too.

- Make the front end wider. Wider means less tipping. Making them wider can be done using wheel spacers or wider A-Arms. If you have the extra dollars, do purchase wider A-Arms. Wider A-Arms means less pressure on bushings. But if you budget is limited, purchase wheel spacers (1.5" - 2.0") dramatically improve its safety. Especially on the sharp technical corners.

- Shock covers are good add-on as well. They keep the sand, water / crud off the shock springs and shock piston rod. Thus, making them last longer.

- If your young rider rarely goes above 20 mph (like my son), do consider installing a smaller front sprocket &/or larger rear sprocket. Custom sprockets give the mini more "momentium" power for the the same ground speed (as if using normal size sprockets). For technical trials and soft sand, smaller front & larger rear do make a huge difference.

And don't fogret the safety gear. Helmet, goggles, chest protector. These reactive safety equipment are will worth it.

Thanks. Some good ideas there. I think the Unison comes with shock covers, and lights. And she ALWAYS wears her riding gear. Thanks again.

For added safety, I'd recommend a whip flag. Whip flags make a mini easier to see. Especially in bush and sand dune riding conditions.

To save time tightening its chain (which probably your first adjustments), order a Spring Loaded chain tensioner. I can't remember if the Unison comes with out without a chain tensioner. If it doesn't have one, one can be purchased from HPD. With a spring loaded chain tensioner, you should only need to adjust its chain tension in the spring and once in the fall. It all depends on how much "dirt / crud" riding you do and how heavy your young rider is.

Certainly does. Flags are required here by law in places like Pismo, where we ride. I think the Unison actually comes with one of those too!

Only other thing I would recommend is to run some pre-mix in the first tank of gas. It will smoke and probably foul first plug but will ensure good lubrication first tank and if the oil injection system has any air in it this will save your motor. I figure if manufacture of a $9,000 snowmachine says to do this I will do it on all my new 2-strokes. To me it is more then worth the hassle. We ride in the winter and only use snowmachine oil for injection year round as it will still pump when the temp goes down. Not all conventional or synthetics are made for winter temp injection. Good for pre-mix, but I have seen some oils seperate in cold weather. Check with your oil tech department. This may not apply to you but others could be reading and cold season is coming fast.
