I am going to buy one of these 3 in a 90cc. The Kymco is a 4 stroke the others 2 stroke. The Eton has a great reputation. any advice would be helpful. Its for my daughter.

We love our kymco !!! no trouble out of it at all.

 

Our Unison has been good. Very strong engine, reverse, great suspension, lights and nice and wide...has a horn too. Only issue we have had is the boggin down on inclinces......I changed out variator weights and springs on the back (per Hetrick..great help) and this has helped, although not completely solved the issue. I do think reverse is awesome...I don't have to throw out my back and my son has done very well with getting used to 3 point turns on the trails without crashing into any trees. I am looking at these 3 brands in 50's for my daughter now...still tough call, as Kymco loses its advantage as the 50 is not a 4 stroke.

I would say though if trail riding and lots of muds/water, I would give the Kymco a good look. Plus depending on your area it has the USFS approved spark arrestor and its a four stroke...... often we are just putting along over very rocky inclines and the 4 stroke may do better than a 2 in these situations, although this is just from reading on posts on this site and others.

Bottom line, IMO, all 3 are nice little machines, each with their own advantages over the other. It depends what advantages you want to take advantage of based upon your riding conditions and of course...........the little ones fit to the machine and their opinion should count a lot, casue these 3 are all tight.

Can you elaborate on the variator weight and spring change? Just ordered a Unison 90 for my daughter, should be here in a couple of weeks, will mostly use it in the dunes and would be interested in how to get a little more poop for the hills. Thanks.

 

I am no expert and Rich at Hetrick Racing suggested the fix. I have copied a post from another forum to explain this a little.

To fix the problem we replaced all of the springs in the rear,red engagement (2000rpm i think it was rated),yellow torque and went with a 6.0 rollers.
This made it better but still was very sluggish,replaced the belt with the Malossi thin to repair it completely.If you have one of these quads I would recommend doing the same it was much safer to ride after it was repaired.

Pretty simple to do, as long as you have an impact wrench. But from reading about the Unison on several sites, it seems this might be a problem more associated with the 03/04 unit? I am not sure. I did not replace the belt, but I am considering it. Had a ride on Monday on a fairly steep trail at 9000ft that it bogged a little...not sure if jetting or somehting like K&N filter would do the trick or to try the belt. I am going to sleep on it for a while. All my local dealers here in AZ have said they haven't heard boo on this issue...or others either.

I wish I would have waited until this summer to buy, I think the foot brake on the new 90's make this a near perfect machine. In fact, I am considering getting my daughter one of the new 90's instead of a 50 because of the foot brake. She's 6 and 45 lbs and can ride her brothers Desert Cat with me attached to the tether, and can just get hand on the hand brake. The foot brake would solve my (her) problem and would be a great safe alternative.

Thanks. Yea, foot brake is a must have. Much safer I think. Just easier for the little ones to manipulate. I think Ill give the Unison a shot in the dunes w/o mods and see how it goes. Im wondering if your 9000 foot altitude may have something to do with the poor performance. Probably starving for air?

 

Very well may be that. I will probably try the K&N first, as it certainly can't hurt anything. I haven't had the machine in the desert since making the mods, so can't really compare. We'll see. I hope your daughter loves it!
