Default Air intake on LT80

What is the direction of air flow on the lt80? I am assuming that the fan draws air in from the "snorkel" on the left side, across the cyl. head and blows it out the top of the air box? With this reasoning, warm air is drawn into the air cleaner. Does anyone know for sure if this is correct?

forgot to add.....

also, I think I am going to need to modify this cooling system. It seems to reason, that the motor needs the cooling fan, or it wouldn't be there....so, I an guessing that as long as I have a cool air intak and a non-restrictive air discharge things should be ok.

Can anyone think of any pitfalls to modifying the cooling?

the reason for this is that I have added lots of suspension travel and the stock rubber bellow hoses wont strech far enough to accomdate the travel. I also have to change the air filter....

thanks

The air comes from under the gas tank and thru the clutchs. You have it backwards.
You can change the air filter and the thing it sits in, you will need to re-jet if you let more air in.
Pitfalls? How about a loss of HP! Alot of ppl take that boot on the left side of the motor and turn it back toward the rear of the machine. This makes a .5hp loss.
Leave as much as possible stock.

Jack, do you recommend staying with a stock air filter, or is a uni good?

The stock filter works fine, the Uni will also. Hard to say if one foam filter is better than another. To each his own on that.
What may make a difference is the filter oil used. I prefer the Bel-Ray stuff that comes in a quart bottle. Sure can be messy but it is superior in filtering IMO.
NO spray filter oil!

Thanks Jack! Sent you a PM

Really....that much of a hp loss by rerouting the cooling air? Is that maybe due to loss of back pressure? Maybe not cooling the head and cyl. as efficiently? The air discharge seems to taper down to a smaller outlet. It is definitely smaller than the intake. Believe me, I would like to leave as much stock as possible, but I haven't figured out how yet.

That's what I use to.
I found that putting the container it in a bucket of warm water for a few minutes help to make it easier to spreat it out on the filter and not have to use so much.
Not sure if that is a good thing or not, but we'll see I guess.

Hey Jack,

On my motor you sent back...............

All it had when I got it, was a K&N adapted to sit off the front of the 20mm carb.
Then it had the stock hose that goes into the clutches, with a filter on the end, pointed forward.

Should I go ahead and leave it that way, or put all the stock stuff back on (I think he gave it all to me).

Quad4fun: You'll have to leave stuff off for the 20mm. The intake on the clutch cover should have a filter on it tho.
DMC: Yes, backpressure. w/o it I think the fan grabs more air thus the HP loss.
