Default My Daughter Putting Beating Up on a few Japanese Mini's

I'm still messing with my Daughter's Chinese Tao-Tao Mini Eagle ATA-110B (Dino Body Style). My wife and I took her to her first Drag Race a few weeks ago and I was impressed how good she did do.

I entered her in the Open Outlaw 50cc-125cc Two-Stroke/Four-Stroke 7-10 Year Old Class and she placed 2nd. She would have won but I didn't have the quad geared right and she ran out of gear about 25' to 30' feet before the end of the track. She got put out both times by the same Quad (Built Suzuki LT-80). It was so funny, after her first practice pass people gathered around her quad and started asking questions about it. Granted most of them thought it was a 50cc Quad. Watch these Video's that I put up on You-Tube, these were the ones my wife got I apologize for the poor quality-

This is her Racing a 2006 Yamaha Raptor 90 with a aether Yoshimura or HMF Exhaust, I cant Remember what his dad said. It also had a Jet Kit and a UNI Air Filter with NO Air Box Lid.

---Left Lane---

This is her racing a 2003 Suzuki LTA-50 With all the OEM Exhaust, Intake, and Throttle Restrictors removed, Shaved Cylinder Head, Jet Kit, Moose Replacement Air Filter and a Cylinder Base Spacer that allows the the Cylinder Ports to be completely uncovered.

---Right Lane---

Here She's Racing the Built Suzuki LT-80 that put her out in the Final round. This LT-80 was Bored 80 Over, Wiseco Piston, Shaved Cylinder Head, Stroker Crankshaft, Boyesen Power Reeds, CT Racing Port/Polished Cylinder, Ported Reed Cage, K&N Air Filter, Big DG/Mikuni Aftermarket Carburetor/Jet Kit, CT Racing Pipe and Silencer, Aftermarket RM-85 Programmable CDI Box, and a CVT Upgraded Kit.

---Left Lane---

There were about 10-12 Mini Quads in her Class and the Built LT-80 was the only Quad that beat her. Thankfully there wasn't any built Yamaha Raptor 125cc Quads there. From what the other parents that took there kids drag racing quite a bit there's a few of them that are built pretty hot that beat the Built LT-80 that beat my Daughter by about a foot. After seeing her do as good as she did and have a blast doing it I've decided to do a few more things to her Quad to help it run and ride better.

Default New Upgrades I plan on doing.

We went pretty mild on the Loncin 110 Build really. We went with a Stage II Hot Cam (Builds Torque, for woods and trails), Withrow did a mild Port/Polish job on the head and he didn't mess with the Guides, we went with a 26mm Round Slide VS a Flat Slide Carburetor and we left the Bore and Stroke Stock. The rest is just Bolt On stuff. I wanted to make sure that we didnt get into any reliability issues.

If you were to build motor with a set of Billet Aluminum Crank Cases, a put a Builder Series Four Valve Cam in it like a Web Cam, went with a Four Valve Head with Titanium Valves VS a Two Valve Head with Stainless Valves and a aggressive Port and Polish Job, after Market Big Bore Cylinder for a Pit Bike Like a Boyesen, Long Rod Stroker Kit, Programmable CDI Box, and a FMF Big FMF 4.1 Exhaust it would be hard to say how Bad one of these Quads could be.

I Talked to Matt Withrow "Withrow Powersport's" about my Daughter's Quad after she raced and we decided that we were going to upgrade the Single Gear Transmission to a Loncin 125cc Transmission with a 3-SPD Semi Automatic Transmission and since both Motors 110cc and 125cc have a 52.4mm Cylinder Bore (The 125cc has a Taller Cylinder with a Longer Stroke on the Crank) that we swap the whole Transmission and Bottom end and use her High Compression Piston and Head on it if the rod on the 125cc Loncin Motor has a 13mm Wrist Pin. But we're not sure yet we might just swap the transmissions and leave everything else alone.

We have decided to take everything else to the next level though, Withrow's Building a set of +3+.5 A-Arms out of Lightweight Chromolly Steel and a Oval Tube Swing Arm with a Round House Carrier. Our plan right now is to buy used take off Newer Honda 250X or 300EX Spindles, Hubs, Hydraulic Front Brakes, Rotors, ECT and buy Honda TRX-90 Rear Hubs, Axle, and Aftermarket Billet Round House Carrier. He said he would help me out and sell me Mini Fox Float MXR's for the front and a Fox Podium Shock with Remote Reservoir for the Rear at his Cost. If we do this I think the Suspension Should be up to par.

While we're doing this Stuff I went ahead and made a list of other Upgrades/Mods that I plan on doing. Here's the list I've come up with so far. The things that are written in Red Text I've already bought.

  1. Plastic Tao-Tao Mini Eagle Gas Tank
  2. Honda OEM TRX-400EX Fuel Petcock
  3. 12, 13, 15, 16, 17 Tooth Front Sprockets
  4. Aftermarket Grab Bar/Courtesy Rack
  5. Aftermarket Front Bumper
  6. Honda CRF-50 Pro-Taper Handle Bars
  7. Pro-Taper Handle Bar Grips
  8. ASV "Break Away" Hydraulic Front Brake Lever
  9. Frame Gusset Kit
  10. Honda TRX-90 Round House Axle Carrier and Bearing Kit
  11. Honda TRX-90 Rear Axle
  12. ITP Mini Aluminum 8X7 Rear Wheels with 4/85mm Lug Pattern
  13. ITP Mini Aluminum 8X7 Wheels with 4/144 or 4/110 Lug Pattern
  14. Honda TRX-90 Rear Brake Rotor
  15. Dunlop KT901 6X8-7 "All Four"
  16. ITP Chrome 1" Lug Nuts
  17. Pro-Armor Kill Tether Switch
  18. Under Rear Fender Frame Mounted Battery Tray
  19. TRX-300EX Battery
  20. TRX-300EX Tool Box/Carrier
  21. Eton Viper 90cc Headlights
  22. Gy6 50CC Scooter Air Filter Boot/Joint with 90° Bend
  23. Mini Oil Cooler/With Plumbing
  24. Steel Braided Hydraulic Front and Rear Brake Lines
I'll post pictures and videos for you guys. I had the OEM Tao-Tao Seat Re-Foamed and Recovered with a good Seat cover. Before the seat was so hard it wouldn't have mattered what suspension you had on it. It turned out great and the guy only charged me $30 to do it. Heres what it looked like finished.

Default Built Tao-Tao Mini Eagle ATA-110B Drag Racing.

I wanted to let you guys know after you've upgraded and added a few Power Enhancing Mods to the Loncin Power Plant you can gain a lot of Speed and usable power by jumping the Front Sprocket up a few teeth. After the Youth Drags in Lawrenceburg and my Daughter finished 2nd because a Built Big Bore Suzuki LT-90 ran her down and beat her by a foot I decided to do a little experimenting with the front Sprockets. I ended up buying a Sprocket Set from PCC Motor's off eBay -

420 15,16,17,18,19 TOOTH FRONT ENGINE SPROCKET SET FOR 110cc 125cc CHINESE MINI ATV's/PIT QUADS

I took my Daughter and her Quad out to Withrow Powersport's and me and Matt Withrow swapped the 14 Tooth Front Sprocket out for a 15 Tooth Front Sprocket and we had her run the quad until it was out of gear. Then we marked the Starting Point and Ending Point off with chalk and measured the total amount of feet it took her to reach her top speed. Then we swapped out the 15 Tooth Front Sprocket for a 16 Tooth Front Sprocket and repeated the process.

The 16 Tooth was as big as we could go with the Stock Chain because we didn't have any more Slack Adjustment left on the Swingarm. Lucky for me the 110 Mini Eagle Reached its top Speed around the 198' mark with the 16 Tooth and the Local Fair ATV Dirt Drag Tracks are all 200ft Long.

What was really surprising to me is the Quad 0-60ft Times didn't drop at all, her whole shot remained the same as it was at the previous race with the 14 Tooth Front Sprocket and she gained about 35% more top end speed.

In the Frankfort Kentucky Open Outlaw 2-Stroke/4-Stroke 50cc-124cc Youth Class she competed against the following Mini Sport Quads and Dirt Bikes:

  • Honda CRF-50cc
  • Can-Am DS-90cc
  • Polaris Scrambler 90cc
  • Honda ACT-110cc
Unfortunately for some reason my Wife didn't get all the Races on Video, she only got 3 of them and two of the video's is her racing the Polaris Scrambler 90cc. The drags are double elimination and she never got beat once. Heres how they finished:

1st Place - Tao-Tao Mini Eagle ATA-110B (Youth Sport Quad)
2nd Place - Polaris Scrambler 90cc (Youth Sport Quad)
3rd Place - Can-Am DS-90cc (Youth Sport Quad)
4th Place - Honda ACT-110cc (Youth 3-Wheeler)
5th Place - Honda CRF-50cc (Youth Dirt Bike)

110 Tao-Tao Mini Eagle VS Polaris Scrambler 90cc #1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KN_mD5XOVII was hoping that Built Suzuki LT-80 would be there and a few more Quads for her to race. There's supposed to be a BIG ATV Race in Lawrenceburg this Fall that has a big Mini show up. Hopefully I can get a few more videos of her racing there. I'll also try to get the other Video's from somebody and post them up on here.I

Lubricants Used:

AMS Oil 10W-40 Synthetic Oil
AMS D.O.T.-4 Brake Fluid
AMSOIL Synthetic Polymeric Off-Road Grease

Don't let people tell you that the China Made Loncin 50cc, 110cc, 125cc Engines are NOT Honda Knock offs. Every Part I listed in that Mod list that was associated with the motor was for a Honda TRX-90 Youth ATV with the 52.4mm Cast Aluminum High Compression Piston that I ordered from T-Bolt being a exception. Everything in the Top End of the Engine is exactly the same except for the Cylinder Bore Dimensions. I did decide to upgrade to a 2003 Honda TRX-90 Cylinder Head because my ATV Mechanic (Withrow Powersports) suggested I buy a Real OEM Honda TRX-90 Cylinder Head because the Honda Heads are made out of a little harder Cast Aluminum and he can be more precise with the Port/Polish Work that he does and it turns out better with the Honda Head VS the Loncin Head. The Loncin 110cc Engine thats in my Daughters quad has a Toker Crank and Rod which is supposed to be the same same Crank and Rod that Honda uses in there CR Mini Dirt Bikes. Go to www.tbolts.com and talk to Vince, he will help you build your China Quad any way you want for any type of racing or riding.
What did you use for the brake conversion? I'm
Assuming you converted from front drum to front disk? I'm interested in doing this to my sons Tao Tao 110 H1 as the front drum brakes are weak and do not work very well at all

I know this is a super old post, but did anyone ever decide the correct jet sizing?

Honda 110 hubs fit the splines perfect

Anymore info on the disk brake conversion would be awesome!
Trying to convert my son's TaoTao 110 to front disks and the rear disk to a foot pedal rather than the hand lever.
Thanks!

Great thread, unfortunately now I have more questions than I have answers. Is there another thread like this somewhere that's specific to the Coolster 110cc, 2016 model? I got my oldest son one, and I want to put some aftermarket parts on it.

What's the best carb upgrade I can do, that'll just be plug and play?
I cannot find any rear wheel spacers that have a 3 bolt pattern like his ride does -- is the only option available to custom machine my own spacer?

I have some more questions but there are the top priorities right now, and help would be appreciated, thanks!

I let it run at wot, and as the gas started to run out if finally reved up and ran like it should for about 4 or five seconds until the fuel ran out. I was told that if I go below a 70 main then the carb is too big. Whats your thoughts on this as you think it is rich/lean? The dealership I was able to swap jets out at does not have anything smaller than a 72.5 so I have to order from somewhere if I need to go smaller. They also did not have pilots so I used carb cleaners and slowly bored it out it now has no bog down low, and takes right off but I know I may have bored it out one size to many as when I rev it form 0-1/2 throttle I see some black smoke. Needle jet is set at it's leanest setting. Not sure the size of the pilot jet either as I bored it out and have nothing else to compare it to. So I know what the size is and drop down one size or two. But it does start right up and revs real nice to around 3/4 then almost sounds like it is hitting a rev limiter with out much for high revs. I know its not hitting a rev limiter because, stock it reved up more, and like I said when the fuel starts to run out, it took right off and reved up nicely.

That sounds like your float height May need adjusted as well it took me a little while to find my sweet spot with it because i had the same issue. Im running an 84 main and 38 pilot and once i got my float height finally dialed in then it seriously runs like one of my fuel injected quads. Wether its from a cold start or hot and from idol to top end it doesnt miss a beat. I have a full exhaust i made, one of those A9 cams, cdi, 10 tooth front sprocket 41 tooth rear, its full auto with out reverse but i put in aftermarket clutch and stiffer springs. I also did a port or polish or both on the head, exhaust and just cleaned up any casting defects, intake, was 20mm carb but its about 21mm now, I bored the stock jug "im a machinist" and went with a 54mm piston, and did a quick 3 angle valve job and found some stiffer springs. Alot of my parts ive made myself i have a handful of these motors I like them because they are cheap but I trial and error alot. Bottom line i guess is have you tried adjusting your float and also maybe check your coil and plug set up and make sure it has a strong spark. I had a plug that the insul. Was broke down low i didnt see and the quad ran horrible and plug showed it was running pretty rich and luckily i didnt start making adjustments because i threw in another plug and it was perfect.
