Old yamaha yfm80 or 2000 E-ton TXL 90
#1
I have 2 boys 5 and 3going on 4, the oldest has been riding a yfm80 since he was 3 and is pretty good on it. the 3yr old likes to be a passanger more then driving(mostly with mom or dad). I just picked up a 2000 Eton txl90 for him but it is just way too big for him. so here is the question. the Yamaha is old, but has never had any problems since I got it other then the rear end was bad and replaced. it has no suspension at all, it's shaft drive, and a 3 speed. he can not shift yet but I just put it in 2ond gear and he goes., the Eton is fully auto and has a ok suspension. it needs rear axle bearings and it seems to smoke a lot, maybe just the oil or not sure yet. which one would you keep? I am sure the yamaha will run forever, and i have heard he 2000 eton's may not be that reliable? my son will never race so it will never get really beat, but it will get ridden more and more as he gets older and probalbly by both boys.
also what is the eton worth

I'm with Samson on this one.I'd keep them both and fix up the Eton as you can afford it.If it does prove to be unreliable you always have the old faithful for the kids to ride.If the Eton works good then each boy will eventually have their own machine to ride.I don't have any experience with the older Etons but the main complaint I have heard is about the electric choke not working properly. This seems to be a problem on any machines that used an electric choke.I believe Eton does sell a cable conversion to solve that problem.

WOW, no one wants to make a decision. well acctually I road it at lunch and the smoke stoped, it seems to run real well. i hopefully will replace the bearings this next week or as soon as I find them. I will probalby keep them both for a few weeks maybe.

Our Viper smokes pretty bad at first after it has sat for long periods without being started (like a couple of months or more). It clears up pretty quickly as soon as the pipe gets hot and then its fine.

Did you ever go premix Yeller? Made all the difference in the world for me. Sure jetting had a part in it too though. Mine hardly smokes at all, even after going 32:1 with the avgas.

No we still run the oil injection. It just makes things so much easier trail riding at the cottage without having to premix. It's almost like the carb fills up with oil or something when it sits for long periods. It doesn't cause any problems just smokes like crazy when you first start it up.It can sit for probably a month or so and not do this but any longer and it smokes for a bit.

I had a pool under the quad of something a few times on the stocker. Didn't look like gas or oil. Thick and clear???? Beats me.
