Default new to quading

I am looking to get my son a quad. He is 11, and a very responsible kid for his age. I have been looking around the web and I see some quads like the jetmoto 110, which looks like the perfect size for him, but I've read some posts that they are not that great a machine. I am completely lame when it comes to working with motors and such, and I would definately want to get it professionally assembled.

I guess what I am asking is am I better off getting something like this for $1500 or spring for the name brand like yamaha.

I am looking for 4 stroke, and something with a drive shaft. It's going to be riden on the beach alot, so I guess I should have something with seals brake drums if that is possible.

I appreciate all the help anyone can offer.

bobjava,

Look into the Honda TRX90 it's a great machine, you won't have to wrench on it other than preventive maintenance.

If he is big for his age then maybe look into a bigger quad, children can outgrow the quads quickly.

Good Luck.

SB.

If your lame at working on motors and such. Go with polaris/yamaha/honda/arctic cat/kawi/suzuki/bombardier..... Theres enough brand name to choose from. With a brand name you can start it and go from day one. With these other ones. You will have to adjust this and that and if you dont know what your doing. How will you know if you get it right.

If you don't want to wrench, then get a brand name quad, which after reading all of this site, you should get either the Honda 90, or the Polaris Phoenis 200. Depedning on his size, the 90 may be too small, or the 200 may be too big. My 10 year old and alot of our neighbors ride the Phoenix. You can get a 2005 leftover for $2600, and a 2006 for around $3400. I just sold my Yamoto 150 to get into the Phoenix 200. World of difference. My son can now hang with the adults on the big rough rides.

If you don't have a good set of tools, don't bother with the Chinese quads. I didn't mind fixing the Yamoto and doing the upgrades, but I already had the tools, and a limited knowledge of how to use them. Its pretty cool outsmarting hte factory and making it better, but its frustrating when you break down in the field.

I've read that the phoenix had alot of problems. The sportsman 90 by polaris is a solid machine. Same as the pred 90, just seems to fit bigger kids better.

Yes, the Phoenix had alot of problmes early on. They seemed to fix them all by the time I got mine. The 2006 has a better seat, and a few minor upgrades. If the 90 is too small, then the Phoenix is the only next size up when buying new.

I agree with all the above. I have a REDCAT VX-80 and it is good, but go for the sure thing and buy the Honda!

Thanks for eveyone's comments, I appreciate the feedback. I would much rather go with a brand name, but I would love something a bit bigger than a 90, because I think he wil out grow it rather quickly. That was why I was looking at the Jet Moto 110.

Is there nothing in a big brand name closer to the 110cc range?

Yamaha makes the blaster. Its the last year for the 2 stroke blaster. So it will for sure keep its value. I believe its a 195cc.... Price is a little price though. $3200... But your kid will get years of riding out of it. You to for a matter of fact. Its a 6 speed though. Better choice than the polaris 90. Only a couple of hundred more.
