mini-skyhawk running rich or is it the choke?
#1
Hello all! First post here, and I'm hoping you can help out.
I have a 2004 mini-Skyhawk 50. It seems to be VERY cold blooded. When I initially start it, it appears to run very rich - almost like the choke is on. However, it takes up to 5 minutes before it warms up and runs well.
This happens even when I shut it off after a 20-30 minute ride, and try to start it 5 minutes later. Anytime it sits longer than 5 minutes, it takes FOREVER to warm up.
I don't know if it's the automatic choke that is causing this, or if it's running rich. I'll pull the plug, but I really think it's the choke. Is there a way to turn off the choke manually, to see if this is it?
Thanks in advance!
Gary

Auto chokes suck imo. You can always upgrade to a 20mm Keihin. Said it before and I'll say it again, hands down the best mod I've made.

Thanks. I'll look into upgrading to a 20mm keihin. How much are they going for (ballpark figure)? Do you think it has something to do with this auto-choke garbage?
Thanks!

Would any 20mm Keihin work in my mini-skyhawk? I saw this on ebay:
20mm Keihin
Is it just a simple swap out, or is anything else involved?

Unless you can machine it down, I think you need a new intake. You'll also need a throttle cable and handful of jets and a new air filter. I've bought most of my junk in bundles. I really can't remember what I paid. Sorry.
Jets are available at any dealership and I'm using a Round Straight, Rubber Base, Chrome Top, Flange ID 1.75 in., 3 in. x 2.5 in K&N filter.
I think a lot of people run like a 1.68" flange but mine seems to fit fine.

Thanks for all your help! I'll definitely look into this. I'm guessing that must be my problem...it just seems like it's being choked waaay too long.
Thanks again!
