Yamoto problems?
#1
I see references to Yamoto having problems in the past. Any specifics? I spoke with Jason from Shinima today who told me that they are the "old" Yamoto packaged under a new name. Just trying to get a feel for what I may be getting into.

well yes i have had one problem with mine, a 200cc, water cooled, 5 speed manual Yamoto and its running strong its great I got mine for a very good price, $800(local dealer) and we found out the problem the battery sucked it would not hold a charge, but the alternator worked fine, so we bought a 30 dollar battery and now it runs great, but we got some 22' nobbies on the back. so far thats it and since they were a subcontracter in japan for yamaha, they should have around 55% to 75% of the the yamaha parts but the other diffrence is that lets say yamaha inspects 1 out of 10 or 20 of theirs, yamoto would inspect 1 out of 100 or 150, or somthing along the line.
So i would reccomend it but if you do dont get a smaller one i dont know why but it turns out that those have less quality.

There has never been any working relationship between Yamoto and Yamaha. The reason lots of parts fit is because they stole the design from Yamaha.

No yamaha did subcontract with yamaha, and they went to court but..they settled and yamoto has to change its name, the reason being is that yamaha subcontracted them to sell in japan but they went ahead and shiped thim to import shops in america and yamaha wouldent take that so they went to court......but they settled as i said and now must change their name......

Where did you get your info? Would like to see your information. Web links if you got them. Search the forums there is plenty of info on this with links to the correct info. illin is correct , your info is a little sketchy.
You really need to look closely at all Yamoto products. The frames may be the same or close to the Yamaha's but the engines are Honda copies.

Yamoto Distributor and Yamaha Working Towards Settling Infringement Lawsuit
Patriot Motorcycles Corporation, the U.S. distributor of Yamoto motorcycles and ATVs, is trying to settle a lawsuit filed against it by Yamaha Motor Corporation and its parent, Yamaha Motor Co., Inc., the world's second largest manufacturer of motorcycles and ATVs. Plaintiffs filed the complaint in California federal court in October claiming that Patriot and the manufacturer and dealer of Yamoto products infringed on the Yamaha marks by importing and selling "knock-offs" of Yamaha products, adopting a similar brand name and decorating Yamoto goods with graphics similar to Yamaha's. At the center of the dispute are Yamaha's Raptor line of ATVs and its model TT-R125 off-road motorcycles. Yamaha seeks to permanently enjoin defendants from selling the infringing products and treble and punitives damages for trademark infringement, trademark dilution, false designation of origin, false advertising, copyright infringement and unfair competition. Yamaha Motor Company, U.S.A., Cypress, Calif., has obtained a Consent Judgment in its lawsuit against Yamoto Motor Corporation, Union City, Calif. Yamoto has agreed to stop the import and sale of Yamoto products into the United States which Yamaha claimed were copycats of its products.
The lawsuit, filed October 12, 2005 in Los Angeles Federal Court against Yamoto Motor Corporation and Patriot Motorcycles Corporation (Pink Sheets: PMCY), alleged trademark infringement and copyright infringement, among other claims.
Yamaha reached a settlement with Patriot Motorcycles Corporation on November 22, 2005, whereby Patriot agreed to cease the distribution of products under the Yamoto name. The judgment against Yamoto was reached March 14.
"Yamoto entered the U.S. market intending to piggy back off of Yamaha's superior brand name recognition by selling inferior copycat products that are in clear violation of our U.S. trademark rights," Yamaha General Counsel Russell D. Jura said in a prepared statement. "That simply was not acceptable to Yamaha and we went to court to protect our rights and hard earned reputation."
The Consent Judgment states, in part, that:
-- Yamoto's use of the name Yamoto violates Yamaha's trademark rights in its trademark Yamaha
-- Yamoto's use of Yamoto Circle Design Logo violates Yamaha's trademark rights in its Tuning Fork Logo trademark
-- Yamoto's sale of Yamoto Raptor Style ATVs violates Yamaha's trademark rights in the shape, style and overall appearance of Yamaha's Raptor ATVs
-- Yamoto's sale of Yamoto Motorcycles violates Yamaha's trademark rights in the trade dress of Yamaha Motorcycles
-- Yamoto will cease the importation and sale of Yamoto Raptor Style ATVs and Yamoto Motorcycles
"This judgment fully vindicates our position," Jura said, "especially since Yamoto admitted that the Yamoto products that it was selling were copies of Yamaha products and that it was infringing upon Yamaha's reputation and goodwill."

(They had almost the same parts just that yamoto could somehow find a way to sell them cheaper and still reel in profit, but if you buy one they dont have as many parts you can buy and they have a terrible warranty but as you see "copycat product" means they were very close in parts and looks,)
