help with lt80
#1
hello, my kids have a lt80 and we rebuilt the top end. runs great until they ride it for a while. At first it starts to cut out at top end then gradually gets worse and worse. Till finally it will hardly run just sits there sputtering. dont know to much about these accept they love it when it runs good (for 3 minutes) i have been told it may be the coil. i have no clue dont want to put more money into it untill sure. maybe a way to test coil. would stator have anything to do with it?? please if anyone thinks they might know my three kids would love it.

I'd bet on the coil also.
You could try cleaning the carb (since that's free). something floating in the bowl and shutting down the jet may be a possibility, but it sure sounds like a coil.
You use an ohm meter to check. I don't know the specs tho.
How long do you have to let it sit before it goes good again?

thankyou for responding It takes awhile for it to work right. we usually let it sit for 1\2 hour then it runs good enough to hall my kids i set the throttle screw so the throttle is hardly open but if we wait over night it starts and runs great. I even jump on it to see whats goin on and it hauls. but soon enough say about 5-10min starts to cut out top end then gets worse. It gets so bad to where you give it gas and it just sits there sputtering. the carb has been gon through a number of times new gaskets thinking that was the prob. never made a difference. filter is clean and in decent shape i replaced the petcock with one that doesnt use vacuum and pluged the vacuum on the carb. so guess thats why i am confused. i have talked to a few people and they say that coils hardly ever go bad but maybe it happened to us. of course local shop wants 150 for it. just want it to be fixed. thanx for your help
