You'll need to >partially< remove the long bolt that holds the motor in. That will give you the room you need.
It sure is helpfull to have someone there to help as you tweek the motor/frame and get the starter out. And to help align the bolt.

I had the nut almost all the way off to give some wiggle, but it didn't do anything. The crowbar would just pull the whole motor underside from side to side not really adding any space. I am worried if I take the nut/bolt all the way out at what might happen. Does the starter go up through where the carb is or down through the underneath?

I stand the atv up on the back wheels, and then throw a strap over the rafters and through the front bumper.

Pull that pivot bolt out, and you should be able to wiggle the starter out.

The pulling of the bolt almost all the way out and strapping front bumper to the overhead beam in my garage really did the job to pull the starter. You don't even have to pull the carb when you go this route. Starter replaced some time ago and then I got frustrated because it still didn't run. I guess if I would have known how easy it was to plug in the new starter to see if it fired, I would have tried that first. Now I have the new starter installed and still only a slight click sound when I attempt to start. Any thoughts?

Any suggestions on where to go now that the starter has been installed and still only getting a single click sound. Could the wire running from the battery to the starter be bad?

Make sure the motor is grounded to the frame.
I usually add a wire.
