Default Wheel Spacers

Here is a picture of the wheel spacers I made for my son's atv.. I used 4 inch long 5/16 grade 8 bolts/locking nuts, and 3 inch pipe for the spacer.. All can be bought at your local Hardware store for under $20.. Then I recently threw some paint on the spacers to match the color of his atv..

their you go guys, TriplxXO7 has it with the exception that i installed another nut and washer at the end of the spacer to keep it in place when the wheel removed, also i would reccommend using 10.9 -14.9 grade bolts. i purchased 10.9 grade 8x1.25mm bolts and 10.9 grade nuts from boltdepot.com, the spacer rod i purchased from home depot and use a tubing cutter to cut it to lenght, then measured them to make sure they were all within .010 of each other, the ones i made are 2 years old now and we never had a problem with them, i added 2" to each side for a total of 4", these work go for kids 50-90cc atv's and cannot reccommend doing this for an adult quad, for the 110cc atc i used 7/16 bolt which threads are almost the same as the 10x1.5mm hub, and installed them from the back side of the hub into 7/16 threaded rod connectors, then used a 7/16 bolt for the lug bolt, this adds appox 1.5" to each side for a total width increase of 3".

I would only do a "bolt style" spacer on a kid quad. Anything bigger or with an adult on board needs a solid spacer. You could have someone make one quite easily.

The bolts work, bu the will put allot of stress on the hub.

I would also add that you should use flange style bolt as this effectively doubles the contact area with the hub.

I did the $12 longer-bolt-extra-nuts-wheel spacers on my daughter's sunl mini 110... huge improvement and cheap. I wouldn't trust it on a larger quad, or with a heavier rider (she's like 50 pounds or so), but on a small quad that is used for running the dirt trails at less than 15 mph... best money I spent so far (besides the helmet, goggles and gloves... grin)
