doesn't the kids bikes have a throttle adjustment on them. why not get a 50 or a 90,if you can adjust the throttle. not to be a smartarse here, but my 9 year old daughter rides my 500xt without any problems. she started on my 350moto-4 when she was 5,just left it in 2nd gear.as far as good parenting goes,it's your kid you know better than anyone what he can handle or not handle

When I saw the title on this post I couldn't help but check in too see how much bashing he would receive.

My son has been racing quads since he was 3 and yes I rec'd much worse responses than those posted here

I have to say that I am a little surprised how nice everyone has become...

The reality is that all kids develop at different rates and in different areas of maturity

Their are some adults that shouldn't be allowed on a 50cc quad

A 90cc is too much for a 3 yr old, but a small 50cc can be a good match

IF the parent teaches the basics of riding along with supervision and safety gear.

My son started learning how to stop and use his body to control the quad and when he didn't respect the quad he was pulled off as fast as he could blink.

I have presented this question each time a post like this is made and I never get a response, but I will try again

If riding an atv before the age of 6 is such a problem then why does the AMA sanction events for 4-6 yr olds?

Not like they started riding the day they turned 4?

I am in favor of letting a "repsonsible" parent make the choice...

My son started riding at 3 and rode better than most kids a year or two older..but I do note that this is the exception not the rule

The parent also needs to know the limits of what can be expected and realize that their kids do have limits (like a parent that rides atvs themselves)

MX is a great sport that promotes family, fun and friends......AND respect...

Good luck with your son!!

Be safe and have fun......

Don't be deterred by the people that post negative things......

You will never win an argument with people that are close minded and believe they are right, so don't waste your time (I did and all I got was a headache)

Excellent post bulldog!! Responsible parenting is what it's about, not buying a motorized babysitter which I see all too often around my part of the world. I once saw a young fellow who couldn't have been 10 years old on a Banshee. He could barely reach the clutch to operate it, and my only though was "Kid, I think your parents have got it in for you .. "

Default Quad for my 3 1/2 yr old

My 2 year old son has had a battery quad since he was 1. It took him a bit to undretand turning the think when he first got it but he did after a while. It was a small 6 volt that fit him properly and he wore a properly fitted bicycle helmet when he rode it. For his 2nd birthday I bought him a 12 volt Raptor 660 that was the next size up. I would have preferred to get him the Polaris Sportsman version cuz thats what I ride but it would have been too big for him. And with these items if it doesn't fit properly it is dangerous. Since his new bike has reverse & 2 speeds he needed some extra coaching in the use of the reverse & I've kept the bike in low. He has had it a month now & is doing great with it.

I picked up my 7 year old daughter's Halle 90 last Tuesday night. She has been riding it pretty much every day under my supervision & direction and I am pleased with how she is progressing. Pretty soon I am going to back the limiter screw off a few threads & give her some more throttle. She will most likely only get this year out of the bike & then it will be too small & go to the back of the garage for a few years until the boy is big enough for it. I will get her a bigger one at that point if she wants it.

So Bulldogfallon - no worries about me bashing anyone who goes about providing their kid with a properly sized bike, safety gear & supervision. Like Warrior says - it all boils down to responsibility on the part of the parent & not using the bike as a babysitter.

Hmmm...maybe I'll sell the Halle 90 to Warrior next year for his kid. BTW - nice to see that you have joined the sled world there Warrior. We should hook up next winter for a run or two - we should also do it on the bikes.

I'm all over that Sean .. we got a good deal on the sled at Cabot in Clarenville, she's quite the beast Time permitting, perhaps we can get a ride together sometime this summer.

I've never owned a Polaris sled myself - been Bombi since 81 - but they are good, dependable machines. I've got an 03 Grand Touring now with a pile of miles that will be upgraded this winter to a GTX500SS.

What is your work schedule so that we can line up a run. We usually do a trip once a month with a crowd of us at work. Next one should be in a week or two and we will leave Hr. Grace & head to Monty's in Whitbourne on the Old Track for lunch & then back down through Brigus & that way. About 100 miles, give or take, and everyone is welcome.
