Default Meerkat 50 carb issue

I bought a 2005 Meerkat 50-4A off a friend of a friend. It ran great when I picked it up and even on our first trip out. Now it takes forever to start if it does at all before the battery dies. I just took the entire carb apart and cleaned it. Nothing out of the ordinary or super dirty. I put it back together and still wouldn't start. I checked the spark and it's got good spark. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance for your replies. I'm a dad who wants to spend time with my son RIDING not tinkering all day.

hows the compression? If you have fuel and good spark maybe your compression is low. You could have a tight intake valve (providing its a 4 stroke). You could check the clearance. Hows the air filter on it....did it suck in a bit of dust??

does the intake have a crack in it? that could cause a lean mixture.

I will check the intake. I never looked at it when I had it off. Didn't realize it was an issue until I started reading on this site. Is there a specific spot where it is prone to crack? Thanks again

My son's Meerkat does that everyonce in awhile. When that happens I know that it is time to adjust the vavles, I would try that first.

I have never owned a 4 stroke before. It doesn't look to hard but can someone explain to me how to adjust the valves on this. As detailed as possible will help. Thanks for all the replies.

Well I took Spliffy's advise and his crash course on the valve adjustment and HOLY COW!!! It works, fired right up!! I couldn't believe it, the thing purrs like a kitten. Thanks for all the help, now I can go for a ride without tinkering for an hour beforehand. Thanks again to Spliffy.
